was the horses weren't suppose to be raced?
There is a picture under Sir Walsh's entry here that is marked as coming from CANTER ... yet that old boy just won today at Fairmount.
So what gives?
I thought the whole point to CANTER

This is just a guess and I might not totally have my facts straight but isn't one option for adoption going to the track and checking out the horses a trainer's got available through CANTER? I don't suppose they have to stop racing them technically til they get adopted so I'm guessing that Sir Walsh is still training/racing but if you want to adopt him you can go visit the track. I haven't looked at CANTER in awhile but I'll go stick my nose over there in a bit to see what the horse's situation is considered to be. This is an interesting question.

Sir Walsh is still racing while he waits to be sold. With the win yesterday (non-winners of the year was the condition, and just a few weeks before the end of the 'year' at Fairmount), his price as been dropped to get a quicker sale. The trainer requested the price drop about 5 minutes after the win.
He's listed in the trainer listings - which are private sales and nothing more than free advertising for horses that need non-race homes. The CANTER owned horses are adoptions, that go out under contract (that restricts racing). I'd say a horse that takes all year to win one race, at age 8, is ready for a non-race career.
Please do let me know if you have any other questions regarding the program. I'd be happy to help answer them for you.

Yes, many of the horses that are listed on the Canter sites are currently racing. The majority of horses listed are trainer listings. As Briscomma mentioned, Canter is basically offering free advertising for these trainers in hopes, that these horses are sold to non racing homes but, a trainer can sell to whomever they want to. Now, Canter owned horses are a different story. They are sold to only non-racing homes and the buyers are required to give references..........which are checked. Yes, some of the Canter chapters have refused a sale of their horses because of poor references, incompatability of horse to new owner or new disipline etc.
