The best mares to line-bred will be found in the pedigrees of todays GR SW.

When you line-bred to these cluster mares you will be able to compete in the GR stakes with their offspring.

When a TB breeder doubles up on these superior individual mares, he will be building the foundation for future generations, through their sons and daughters.

One example of these types of matings is the filly Divine Porportions. DP pedigree is an example of what can happen when these cluster mares appear top and bottom in a pedigree of a great filly as DP.

After the 1st cross is made in line-bred family a breeder must revert back to the original line-bred family, or he will lose the dominance of that family performance wise.

Hopefully one day you will hear of another great racehorse:

Celestial Quest 2002 by Toolighttoquit o/o Eskimo Quest by Eskimo : 6x5x7 Almahmoud (3 crosses thru Northern Dancer) , 6x5x5 Aspidistra (Dr Fager), and 5 crosses to La Troienne thru 9 generations. And strains of Exclusive, Lalun, Tamerett, Straight Deal and Reply will hopefully put the icing on the cake.

Hi Taino. Welcome to the forum. :D

Interesting linebreeding on Celestial Quest (great name BTW). CQ has a lot riding on the quality of Dr. Mary Lou as a producer, but as a daughter of Dr. Fager she should have a pretty good shot to pass on talent. From a genetic standpoint, my concerns would be if this mare is conformationally correct or tends to throw correct offspring.

Further back, the reinforcements of Aspidistra, Almahmoud and La Troienne are definite proven positives, and I love to see Lalun in a pedigee, as well.

I wish you all the best with Celestial Quest. Would love to hear about her future successes.

As for the list of great mares to linebreed to, I would add Rough Shod. But if you have linebreeding through Mocassin or Thong (or Special), you've got Rough Shod.

Hi ZiaLand. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Celestial, the first horse I ever bred, actually has really nice conformation (good knees, pasterns, etc), and an even nicer attitude towards training. Pins her ears if a horse comes close, gets into the bit, etc. And seems to have a huge tank, because she doesn't comes back winded from her gallops. Took to the gate training like she'd seen it all her life, but I guess since I raised her like a child, she trusts whatever us humans ask her to do. I decided to wait to put her in training because Peter Tatersalls trained her mother for John Franks, and said she had loads of talent, but he had problems keeping her sound (ankles). So I thought more time would help. We did have an EPM scare after about 3 weeks of training, but the situation seems to have resolved itself. I also have her half-sister by In Case who looks and acts even better than big sis. Mom is in foal to my Marquetry stallion for an April foal. I definitely have my fingers crossed.

Generally a TB that has problems with ankles has a body that is top heavy or their frame is too large for their ankles to support.

How is your TB put together? conformation wise. Thanks Louis.

My trainer, who also gallops her, says she is a medium framed horse, but still hasn't tucked up yet, only being in training for about 2 months, with enough bone to support her body. She eats and drinks like a pig, according to the trainer. She feels that she would be classified as a medium build once she is finished growing and filling out. She's shorter backed, built more for speed and standing about 15.3, very proportioned.

Taino, what's the name of your Marquetry stallion?

I have a daughter of Look See, another son of Conquistador Cielo but whose dam was a daughter of Danzig instead of Vice Regent. You might be interested to know that Look See was a very successful regional sire here in New Mexico. Unfortunately, he was killed in a pasture accident after only producing five crops. My mare is one of his last foals. His most notable offspring was daughter Yulla Yulla, who ran out over $440,000 including stakes wins (21 wins in all).

His name is Precious Marque. He's o/o the Java Gold mare Set for Gold, a half to Twice the Vice. He didn't win much money, but he did beat Shake You Down. He looks good, showed heart in his races, and is throwing some great looking foals, the first one doing really well at our Yearling Show this year. Wish me luck!!!!!

Jazil and Keyed Entry are good examples, but it’s Seek Gold’s dam who has female family inbreeding, not Seek Gold himself. His dam, Aly’s Adita, is inbred to Two Lea 4x3.

Another horse bred like that is Bluegrass Cat. His dam, She’s A Winner, is inbred 5x6 to Glamour.

Third place Belmont finisher Sunriver is a rare double Ramussen Factor, having Cosmah 3x5, and her dam, Almahmoud, 4x5x6. Lauren Stich's 6/13/06 column in the DRF mentions other recent examples, including Stevie Wonderboy. He has Weekend Surprise 3x3.

Getting and keeping the weight off of her is extremely important, IMO. Of course my advice comes from experience with a very talented filly who had loads of talent, loved to eat (and no one seemed to pay much attention to that fact), so she ended up with ankle problems that keep sending her to the layup barn.

I'd also advise, keeping her on Adequan IM to keep the joint cartilage destroying enzymes at bay. And not training until 3, would also be high on my list of "suggestions" for keeping ankle issues at bay.

Best of luck with her!
