Identification by tatoo number

Postby follygirl » Sun Jan 01, 2006 12:10 pm

I am looking to buy a thoroughbred for a riding horse. I have his tatoo number...will the Jockey Club give me his registration info?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

If you give them $35 and his tattoo, they will look it up for you. Unfortunately, there is nowhere to research a tattoo that is free.

Is there a story here? You know we love stories with happy endings!

Well there might be a story. I have been looking for a riding horse, actually trying to stay clear of purebred thoroughbreds and especially ex racers! I just don't think of them as the quiet bombproof horse a casual rider like me needs. But, this horse fit the bill in the ad. When I saw his picture, I thought he was a warmblood...I can't wait to see his pedigree as he is very pretty and has a lot of bone under him. He is 17.2h! He is very laid back and has a really neat personality. I only was with him for one hour, but he kind of hooked me unlike any other horse ever has!

Unlike the usual brisnet reports, I think this tatoo research is done by a person so it may take a few days. I haven't bought the horse yet...am waiting for the vet check.

I will keep you posted and if I get him, I will send pictures. He is a pretty copper chestnut with one white sock and a white blaze. I'm looking for a read riding buddy and I hope he is "the one".

I'm sure this was only a one time error but Jockey Club sent me the wrong info on the first tattoo search I ever did. I would have never known except I had paid for the $50 package and only got the $35 one. When I asked about it, I got an apology and a whole new horse pedigree, I mean new- completely different horse. I sure hope the horse pedigree I have now is for the one I actually have. I have spent considerable time finding pictures of his family! Love him to bits you see... :) Point is when you read it make sure it makes sense with the horse you have. Best of luck.

Awww! I knew there was a story in there!

I hope you have found your 'one' also!

My 'one' has been described as the animal version of me (not necessarily a compliment).

Well his name is Gavan Mcjack ch. 2/14/97 by Solar Jack out of Crowned Royal(Raise A Native). He was bred by Tina N. Teegarden (FL) and had one start as a three year old, earning $90.

He must take after his father, who was 17 hands. Gavan is 17.2.

Hopefully the vet check will be tomorrow and I can take him home!

I added him to the database for you. :)

His female family is actually rather nice. His 'neice' Reina Prado is a major stakes winner in Venezuela, and there are several nice stakes horses - including English Derby winner Benny The Dip - under the first few dams. None of it has any bearing on his rideability, of course, but it's still pretty neat! Of more interest to you might be the Prince John linebreeding on his father's side - the Prince Johns make nice sport horses. :)

Good luck with him!

Thanks, Lucy! That's really interesting. I am always amazed at the amount of knowledge the people on this list have!

 Sorry to say I was to ride this horse a second time on Sunday and leave a deposit, and he was sold Saturday. It was a little strange as the seller said she thought mine would be the best home, but she sold him anyway. Something not quite right about that.

I am kind of sad. Thanks for all the wise input.
