Name of 8.5 million colt

Postby arsvcs » Thu Feb 02, 2006 7:36 pm

Does anyone know the name of that 8.5 million dollar colt? I thought that I read somewhere that Baffert had him in one of his barns, but never heard the name. Shouldn't he be running this year?

From what I heard, he's named "Mr. Sekiguchi"

Steve Haskin said he's still unnamed. They're probably just referring to him by the owner's name (or the dam sometimes, per Haskin) whenever they talk about him. Plus that name isn't taken by the Jockey Club. He's not registered whatever they're calling him.

Sekiguchi announced on a Japanese show that he would be named Mister Sekiguchi. Or Mr.--not sure which? It's apparently not official, but he said that is what he intends to name the colt.

Anyone else think it's overly narcissistic to name a horse after yourself? :?

I can think of 'way too many ways that could go wrong for the owner. He must have a boatload of confidence in that colt.

Well it's a heck of a way to get someone to call you a stud.
It's a wonder we don't have a colt out there called Mikepegram (cuz you totally know he'd put it all as one word). At least Sekiguchi didn't put "Dancer" in the name. Sekiguchi Dancer or something....always seems to happen to the premium expenditures.

Actually, one of the scenarios that popped into my head was Cigar's fate when he tried to become a stud. I wouldn't want my name attached to that, if I were a man. :!:

It's the '03 Storm Cat-Welcome Surprise. And he was "just" $8 mil.

Do we know why he hasn't started yet? Was there any injury involved or was he just not ready? And are they even trying to think Derby cuz I'd be really wary of trying to take a horse that hasn't even raced yet and getting it ready for the Kentucky Derby like this. I mean some of the horses that are cutting it close right now, like Music School, at least have experience albeit not much.

Not to ask 20 questions but are they shooting for the fall?

Wait a minute. It's a 3 YEAR OLD Storm Cat colt that hasn't even officially been named yet?

The horse is dead.

Sam, he is not dead! I saw him propped up in a paddock at Coolmore yesterday. Yes there were lots of flies around and he smelled funny and was sort of green colored, but he's commanding a $50,000 stud fee and is booked to 500 mares.

He's not dead! He's currently training in California with Baffert. He'll be officially named right before he's entered.
