Can someone who's famliar with the AJC registration process answer a question for me? If a 2YO TB does not yet have a registered named, does that mean the horse hasn't been officially registered?
I have someone claiming they have an unnamed 2YO, but that the horse has papers so he's registered. I'm a little confused by this. If the horse doesn't have a registered name with the AJC and is already 2, doesn't the $2,000 registration fee apply?
Thanks, just want to be inform them correctly if I'm wrong.

Question on Registration Process
So many pedigrees...so little time. (C)
No. If the horse has papers, they have papers. What happens if the filly is still unnamed as of January 31 of the two-year old year there is a fee for naming ($75 or $100, I don'e remember which).
A LOT of horses stay unnamed through two-year old in training sales. Some people believe they will sell better because either the buyers prefer to name the horse themselves or it is bad luck to change a horse's name and so what if the buyer doesn't like the name you chose?
I went through the torture in December of naming all six of our coming-two year olds.. the last one was done around Jan 12th.
All the yearlings I purchased (Keeneland and Fasig Tipton) came with papers (they came in a package later). But later, when I named them, the Jockey Club sent me name "tags" to staple to the papers.

I have a question about the time it takes in this process. If the application is in, the DNA posted, and all fees paid how long does it take them to decide if they like your name choice or not....My filly broke her halter and I want to put her registered name on a new one, not her barn name, and if they don't come thru with a decision soon she'll have to wear a nylon halter
Her leather halter made her feel more distinguished from the other two sporting nylon...poor girl, lol. Let's hope they hurry up.
The name is usually approved or not within three business days. BUT!!! It takes 4-6 weeks to get registration papers. I registered a yearling $525 by Dec 31), sent in all the stuff around Dec 10th. A couple of days later I could pull him up by his name, showed Registration Pending.. so I thought what gives? Were my pictures bad? ETC? So I called. And was told they usually wait three weeks for the payment to "clear" before sending out the reg. papers. 'Course I'm in KY and the money was long gone from my bank account. You can probably check now on the JC website to see if your filly's name was approved.
