BirdontheWire Mare!

Postby birddya » Tue Mar 14, 2006 12:55 pm

Hello!
I have a mare 16.1 6 years old ( Judith Can) by Birdonthewire, out of Royal Pelliknow!
She is a nice mare, good for hunter/jumper! But she has been approved by CWBA and Can trak society for breeding purposes and had one nice colt so far.
I was wondering if her pedigree would be any good for producing race horses? I know nothing about racing and/or breeding for the track. But I have heard that her sire was fairly good race horse, and just wondered what she would be worth as a broodmare! I am not looking to sell I am just interseted!
Thanks,
Katie

I'll take the easy part of your question and information you probably already know. Your sire was 31-10-7-4, in the money (541K) 21 out of 31 starts. He traces back to Halo. The tail line is family 11 which had some notables back a few decades with War Admiral possibly the most recognizable. Recent 11 family successes are Thunder Gulch and Val de l'Orne.

As far as whether or not you should take this mare from her current direction and look at racing sires will probably be better answered by some of the board veterans.

This is not a race broodmare. There is no notable blacktype for at least three generations and to look further you would need better motives, ie to sell.

Birdonthewire has not been prolific as a sire or as a sire of stakes winners. His ability as a broodmare sire is yet to be determined, since there are so few mares. He was a very good sprinter from the Hail to Reason line thru Proud Clarion, not thru Halo.

Your mare has no commercial appeal as a broodmare for racing purposes.

I also have a Birdonthewire mare named Spanish Guitar, but she may well become a commercial broodmare, as she and her dam were multiple stakes winners, and her dam has already produced three stakes horses out of four runners.

I have a unraced Birdonthewire mare that is not commerical in my view. Her page is kinda weak even though her second dam produced a G2 stakes placed horse and the third dam produced Brocco(93 Breeders Cup Juvenile Winner), her 1st dam has not produced anything of note.

I am hard pressed to find a stallion match for her in Oklahoma. Her name is Nicoleonthewire. I am breeding to race...

Read hail to reason and wrote Halo. It's a gray matter issue that I'm working on.
