True that, as well as Hard Spun. He was eager to go but alas it was not meant to be.

Curlin and Hard Spun have earned a break...

I'm now convinced that larry jones cost hard spun one of the three races.. probably the Preakness.

he keeps trying to rate a horse that isn't ratable. A bug boy can ride Hard sp un..

"Send"

"don't fight"... he's VERY VERY FAST... yet larry jones keeps snatching defeat from the jaws of victory by draining the horse, taking away his best asset. you put all these horses in a sprint and hard spun pounces probably any horse on the derby trail, and he has alot of stanima.

Plus I think he made enough to pay the feed bill and to buy some mint's for the next month :)

Give him 2 months off and point him towards the Travers and let him demolish SS

It may sound corny, but I bet Ruffian was looking down from horse heaven and gave a big winney of approval. "Way to go girl!"

what's worse. no way he gets it bac..

Yeah Johnny V. thanks for winning the Belmont for me... I'm going to have to ask you to leave now... wont' happen.

Ron Anderson is supposed to be the best of the best... HUGE blunder on his part. you are right.. you just sit out. He probably could have picked up a late mount later this week if he needed. And it's sad becuase Gomez is the better rider.

I agree sending Hard Spun was the only choice if he wanted to win. send the horse get him to relax on the backside go the 1/2 mile in 50 and change and have a shot down the stretch..

he could have sped it up, no horse has that type of turn of foot in this race where they were going to just cover that much ground if he had 4 going on them going into the stretch.. that was his only chance.. and hard spun has enough heart to take it from there

I agree you wait on R2R and if she doesnt go you sit the race out. Dont have an ego and say well i have to have a mount in the big race. Never lose that mount on R2R he just cost Gomez a Grade 1 in and a 1 million dollar purse.

And no theres no way he gets back on R2R.

I yelled and jumped up and down....oh that was AWESOME. It is not about girls being better than the boys, but rather, when a filly comes along that is THIS good, it is HISTORY. She is truly something special. I enjoyed that so much I am about to faint.

What an awesome race, and Curlin tried his guts out. They both did.

Nice to know the AP writer is so unbiased he can resist taking potshots at the Derby winner... oh wait, he couldn't. Classy guy.

NEW YORK - Rags to Riches can beat the boys, too. The fabulous filly outdueled Curlin in a breathtaking stretch run and won the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, becoming the first of her sex to take the final leg of the Triple Crown in more than a century.

No one was happier with the victory than trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey John Velazquez, who both ended long droughts in Triple Crown races: Pletcher was 0-for-28, Velazquez 0-for-20.

The normally reserved Pletcher was screaming throughout the stretch run, one that had the fans at Belmont Park on their feet roaring as the two stars battled saddlecloth to saddlecloth to the wire.

Rags to Riches, despite a slight stumble at the start, became the third filly to capture the Belmont — Ruthless took the first running in 1867 and Tanya won in 1905. Only 22 fillies have tried the Belmont, with Rags to Riches the first since Silverbulletday finished seventh in 1999.

And what a sensational Belmont it was, even without Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense.

When the field of seven 3-year-olds made the turn for home in the 1 1/2-mile race, fours horses fought for the lead, with Rags to Riches, the Kentucky Oaks winner, on the outside and Preakness winner Curlion moving between rivals.

And then it became a two-horse race — a true battle of the sexes. In a furious stretch battle, with Velazquez urging his filly on, Rags to Riches won by a head — the same margin Curlin edged Street Sense by in the Preakness three weeks ago.

"The filly ran a great race on the right day," said Curlin's trainer, Steve Asmussen. "And now they're taking her picture."

Rags to Riches covered the 1 1/2 miles in 2:28.74, well off Secretariat's track record of 2:24. But time didn't matter in this one.

Good race. She definitely earned that one.

That was simply amazing. I was on my feet screaming for the stretch drive. Possibly one of the greatest duals I've ever witnessed.

A commentator after the Kentucky Oaks said that Rags To Riches was so good, he didn't think the colts could touch her. Prophetic. Except for one awesome colt, he was right.

Todd Pletcher breaks his streak of Triple Crown losses.
Rags to Riches is the first filly ever to win the Belmont at a mile and a half.
What an historic day for racing.

And what great timing to have a filly win the Belmont on the day that the Ruffian movie debuts.
