Yep, and that's not uncommon at Aqueduct in the winter. Winds off the bay can get strong enough to make you cry when they hit you in the face.
I think what compounded the problem on Wedneday is that another horse broke down on the Inner Dirt before the card was canceled. The thing has fallen apart, is full of potholes, and it has icicles sticking out of the surface that are cutting horses up and causing infections. The NYRA doesn't do a thing to maintain the surface and hasn't in years and it's a disaster - Charles Wait was part of that problem, and good riddance to him.
Probably the only surface more unsafe than the collapsed Inner Dirt right now is Tapeta. What a relief that Dickinson's crap will never be installed in NY!

Icicles sticking out of the surface? Who told you that? I have spent many winter days at Aqueduct and I have never heard of such a thing.
If anything, the main track is the one that has issues and is falling apart, not the inner.

Turnback - who told me? My trainer. Infections from them aren't imaginary.
The Main Track collapsed last year, and the Inner Dirt has collapsed this year. There are potholes, ruts, and it can't hold any water. Just look at how many horses have broken down on it this year if you need proof - remember when it was the safest surface around? Without needed limestone mixed to the surface (which bankrupt NYRA can't install), the Inner Dirt is now a deathtrap.

This article in today's Bloodhorse;

It certainly sounds like its the death of racing in NY. And I for one am extremely sad &
upset that our politicians let it get to this point.

As far as I'm concerned, EVERYONE in NY should be impeached if Aqueduct shuts down and horses have to move. Where are 2,000 horses supposed to go?
Moron Spitzer is proposing his 2008 budget next month which is supposed to include VLT revenue. This shmuck can't even keep racing going and he's counting on slot revenue. IMPEACH THEM ALL!!!

The news goes from bad to worse - no talk about immediate slots, track improvements, nothing.
