I watched CC being shod today, i was looking at his conformation, & CC is not from the same mold as Candy Ride.
CR was a heavy frame & built like a 4 by 4 QH, I have not seen any of CR progeny that are a carbon copy of his same conformation, CC is narrow in the front & hind end, & looks like a filly than a colt, Kelso had the same type of conformation.

Could be that he takes after his mother Crownette.
Does anyone recall what she looked like?

Ditto what oliverstoned said + the 'feminine" appearance that Louis noted above to my view is just very typical of a young TB who is only starting to 'mature' into his 3YO self. What I have seen of CC on TV always makes me think of an early 2YO....like when they're first sent off to be backed and then turned out before getting race conditioned later. (Mr. Frisky looked exactly like this until he got to the US/Churchhill and began eating all that good grass and hay/feed. He matured physically in a very short time frame and took on that "Derby" glow in the weeks leading up to his historic win.

So....my reasoning is this: if CC is just starting to come into his 3YO self physical maturation wise, has been making steady forward progress racing wise without yet 'peaking' and does move up when given the shot on dirt as his pedigree/oliverstoned suggests may happen I too am pretty high on this horse's KD chances. Go CHOCOLATE CANDY!!!

Candy ride sire of CC is inbred 4 X 5 to the mare Alablue by Blue Larkspur. Alablue produced 7 filly's & 1 colt Middle Brother which won major stakes before they became graded.

When u inbred to a mare , the female family inbreeding will influence her progeny as the colts will take on the appearance of the filly's characteristics. Alablue had 50 lifetime starts.

The colts that are bred from Female Family inbreeding will inherit a light frame of conformation, which is a big plus to attain a prolific number of lifetime starts.

And Crownette didn't contribute anything to this?
Chocolate Candy himself is actually linbred to the mare Alanesian.
Why IGNORE what Crownette brings into this?
Oh, I forgot...She's a lowly female.

I took a few photos at the El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields. here is was Louis is talking about a narrow hind end.

Heres a video of CC schooling at Santa Anita. You get a good view of his front and back. I do agree, he is narrow up front.

I saw the first gallop over the Churchill course, and honestly he looked like he was a little bit too much horse for Lindsy. Too much see sawing sort of motion. That I don't love. He however looked well over the course as did Pioneer of the Nile.

What historic win? He lost the Kentucky Derby ...

The mares seem to be stamping the physical attributes of Candy Ride get. Another interesting fact about Chocolate Candy is the age of his dam and this is the second foal out of that mare that was on the Derby trail. (The other being Crowning Storm)

True he lost the race, but he did blossom once he got to Kentucky. He did get third in the Preakness though, inspite of the fact that he had a tumor the size of a grapefruit growing in his throat. The tumor probably compromised his chances both races.

I sincerely hope for the connections that the colt shows up on Derby Day.
