Great winner with a very fast turn of foot.
The more I get to know people, the more I love animals.

Re: Cali Chrome!!!
I'm not a dosage expert but 3.4 is a tad on the high side no? I was always tought that you want it to be below 2

Re: Cali Chrome!!!
below 4.00. he could do the same thing at Belmont
Re: Cali Chrome!!!
Hope Art Sherman knows Cali's dam traces twice to Swaps. Swaps was the first Derby winner I saw, down at Darby Dan Farm.
Re: Cali Chrome!!!
Good win for The Chrome. The track bias was so much in his favor today. No horse came from behind in the middle of the track today. If you were not early and on the inside you had no chance.

Dosage figures keep getting readjusted based on performances and they are of limited use since they don't take into account female families or stallions who aren't chefs-de-race. There's plenty of horses with dosages below 4.00 that have no pretense of staying whatsoever, and there have been a number of Derby winners who had dosages well above 4.00 until the chefs-de-race lists were adjusted following their performances.

Two crosses of Swaps and from the same female family as well.
Re: Cali Chrome!!!
The story of California Chrome is priceless! His owners were laughed at, yet Cali showed his A$$ to all those millionaire and billionaire owners/trainers and CC has what? ten grand in him?
This gives all of us that are treating the horses as horses, letting us know when they are ready, and also the little people, like my horse boss in Lexington and I here in IL, it gives us some much needed hope! We have a nice gelding, red with the white blaze too, who's won 2 of 5 and one 3rd, we did not start them until four, and four fillies yet to go, one who has beaten the more expensive colts she raced in the training races. Who know what will happen, sometimes the lottery comes through for the good ole folks, the ones that truly love the animal itself, not what he or she can put in their pockets.
Go California Chrome!! Show them that big red butt of yours again and again!!
off topic: love the new forum look, kudos to whoever did that.
Hi to Joltman, Madelyn, and Dublino I hope you are behaving yerself now!! LOL
We will NEVER see another Ruffian......

Eh, that. You run in the race you're in. If the race you're in is slow....because the front-runners HAD to slow it way down or lose any chance of getting to the wire first....then the final time is slow.
This year's Derby was a turf race. On to Baltimore.

Re: Cali Chrome!!!
Carrying on with Joltman on the mare side, given that Love the Chase has Numbered account two times in her pedigree, in the 3x position, both sire and dam, is this what is powering a good deal of his talent? Love the Chase, according to what I've read, had a breathing problem, I guess, although I would not go so far as to say without that problem she would have been better. But is this mare a complete toss, even if you have to go back a ways to find that talent?
I keep remembering another low-priced horse by the name of Seattle Slew....and My Charmer who had the full War Admiral sisters, Striking and Busher, twice in the 4x position in her pedigree, although she did win a little money on the track.
I am not fond of Mr. Prospector twice in CC's pedigree, but are the conduits there typical Mr. P's?
