Postby TJ » Fri May 16, 2014 8:22 am

Wise Dan underwent emergency colic surgery this AM at Rood and Riddle, after he didn't respond to medication. Story below. TJ

This sounds bad. Hoping he makes it through.

Just saw this on Twitter feed:

Claire Novak ‏@ClaireNovak
WISE DAN UPDATE:He is still in surgery, but LoPresti called to say it's the best case scenario for colic, nothing had to be resected"
"If he recovers from it well, they're thinking 6 or 8 weeks off at the most," said LoPresti, added this shouldn't be career-ending

Hi Cree,
Thanks for that update....Claire Novak broke this story, seems she's becoming a top rate reporter for Bloodhorse. Guess he was just impacted, thank God. TJ

Hi TJ,

I just saw that it wasn't an impaction, there was no cutting, he had a twist. So, hopefully all is well and he makes a full recovery.

Hi Cree,
Thanks again...he got lucky. Nothing scarier or more uncertain, then when your horse colic's. TJ

For those who have an interest, please see my post under Foal Watch regarding a similar colic that occurred on the same day to my foaling mare.
The talented ones will give you an early hint.

Hi Random,
Glad to see mamma made it through. Good luck to you, her foal and your other racing stock. TJ
