Stevie Wonder Boy to Japan ?
The Japanese have made a bid of 25 million to purchase SWB, should Merv Griffin sell or not.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

Absolutely...positively...YES!!!
If the offer was real, I am confident that Merv G knows that too.
Best to you.

hi Tucumcari...hi louis finochio
$25mil seems like an unnecessarily HUGE sum of money for Stevie Wonder Boy. If the offer is real...I'd be amazed if he's not sold, especially since Merv G has a reputation for being quite the astute businessman.
SWB showed that he had talent though...did receive an eclipse (top 2-yo) and was the lone highweight on the Experimental.
Stud fees in Japan are often lots higher than breeders might expect to pay to get to similar horses in the states.
Consider this, if Roses In May was sold not that long ago (to Japanese interests) for approx $8mil+-...and stands in Japan for the equivalent of approx $35k...what might champion Stevie Wonder Boy have to stand for to approximate the same proportionate numbers...$105k?
I find that difficult to imagine...but who knows? Maybe the Japanese market can support it.
louis, it's a no brainer don't you think?
Best to you.

He should be on his way... if it were my bank account that was to benefit I'd pat him on the ass and send him on his merry wayTucumcari wrote:He has some soundness issues that won't go away.

Imagine how the TC might have been a bit different if he had been a part. I loved that horse for the Derby!Tucumcari wrote:He won't command a huge stud fee at this point.
Stud fees in Japan are often lots higher than breeders might expect to pay to get to similar horses in the states. So he'd be well sold. Their breeding program has shown to be very effective, and he'd likely be widely sucessful if moved there.

Here is a no brainer for all of you to heed! How about the fact that Merv Griffin does not need any more money to continue his lush lifestyle and the only pushers in this deal are those bottom-feeding bloodstock agents looking for their %age. This horse took Griffin to the moutaintop on racings biggest stage so he owes the horse big time! Sending him to Japan means out of sight out of mind.........have you forgotten Ferdinand already? If Stevie shoots blanks in Japan he may end up lost in translation like poor Ferdy who had achieved way more on the track when he was shipped of to the land of the rising sun. If Stevie was mine I would endeavour to find a high class stud in Ky to handle him and visit him when I could. End of story!
