This is just priceless!
"On a more amusing note, here is a little lesson about how omens can be difficult to interpret. On the Thursday morning before the Derby, I was visiting Bob Baffert's barn where a bird pooped right on the face of Pioneerof the Nile's owner, Ahmed Zayat. This made Zayat really happy, and he thought it was good luck. In retrospect, it maybe was a sign that a bird - Mine That Bird - was going to poop on Pioneerof the Nile's Derby parade."

I had the same thought abut Mine That Bird in the post parade! "Aww, he'd make a sweet pony hunter."
I'm a dumbass.
Had the exact same thought in the post parade

It is merely a statistical finding.....it says, historically..all derby winners had DI of 4 or less, with very few exceptions.
It does not imply a horse which has a lower dosage index will have a higher chance to win, or, ..it does not rank
their winning chance according to DI (in ascending order)...all is said is the winner should rightfully belong to the
privilleged group.
Imagine..if you raise the treshold to 8 from 4..then you too can claim no horses have ever won derby with DI over 8.
DI nevertheless is good academic stuff. Correct me if you dont agree.

I think mine that bird's dosage points out a flaw in dosage. how in the heck is a horse by birdstone out of a smart strike sire, NOT bred to love marathon races? Oh, it's becuase his sire and damsire aren't influentinal enough to get points.
Just becuase Birdstone is not Storm Cat yet, doesn't mean he didnt' have an influenence on this horse's pedigree.

Hi pal..didn't see you for a while.
You are right..flawed..Real Quiet had a massive DI too (5.29) and won Derby...in fact the shortest graded race he won was
8.5f...by definition..a high DI will arrive when the horse's dosage profile is tilted to the left towards the sprinter direction.
Wonder anyone will theorise Derby on horses' 8 characters of birth in future..that will enrich literiture.
