LOL, as soon as the race was over I looked at my husband and said " I really, really hope somebody told Chip Woolley that there is 5 day take out on Clenbuterol back there, NOT a 24 hr take out like here in NM!" I'm not a fan of the guy, rather dislike him, actually, but the industry does NOT need that sort of publicity. Hoping for the best...

Here's some funny trivia. After the race one of the announcers compared Mine That Bird's story to Casey's Shadow (with Walter Mathau) about a Quarter Horse from Louisiana who was a Cinderella horse that won All American Futurity.

Dr. Blach, one of the owners of Mine That Bird was in the movie Casey's Shadow. He played (surprise) a veterinarian. :D

Still an amazing race....wow....

I told the guy next to me it was a lousy start - too much interference.

But Calvin made up for it - and then some.

My excitement for the underdog's win lost alot of air after the trainer made that curt remark about being asked how long it took to drive to Kentucky. Well, you say, the commentators can be so annoying, but if you're ever in that position, try to remember you're talking to the audience when you answer those questions, not the guy with the microphone.

I'll continue to celebrate for Calvin and Mine That Bird. They are the class of that group. Love that joy, Calvin!

They are, and the part-owner vet I have heard good things about, too, but don't know him. The trainer and the drunk owner the bolo tie are...... uninspiring ..... most pc phrase I can come with late at night..

I think the trainer had been asked the same question on how long the trip was AT LEAST 10 times that I saw on TV - and he has a broken ankle.
Curt as it was - I (also talking to the cat) said he was a mite ot cranky.

I sat with my mouth open as - Oh Sh*t as the little guy came flying up and I thoguht who the heck is THAT!

Too bad I don't have OTB here in Phoenix - I saw Calvin on the horse and thought wouldn't it be great if he got the Oaks/Derby double?!

This morning, my neighbor asked me to put $20 on Mine that Bird because he had the "best" dosage figure. When I gave him his $1,032 this evening, he told me he thought the higher the dosage figure the better.

wow--did he have the best dosage figure???

Actually, a tip of the hat should go to Angus at Taylor Made and Keith Crupper of Whispering Oaks Farm near Paris. They helped get this from the prior owner in Canada to the current ownership group.

Keith used to post here every so often, and some people on here boarded horses with him.

While the trainer seemed a tad cranky at first, he showed a ton of class in thanking, emotionally, his assistant trainer and the geldings Canadian Trainer, who he credited with getting the horse eligible. Nothing in the interview was about him... I found it refreshing... even if he was a touch cranky. Besides, he has heard all week how they didn't belong... heard all week about the drive, the trailer, his ankle... etc... so, okay, maybe he was a bit touchy... and it isn't like he has experience in front of a mike or camera, heck he doesn't have but 1 other experience this year in the winners circle.

I hope that people are beginning to learn that Beyer numbers are just about worthless this time of year for 3 yos running longer distances, swithcing surfaces, and maturing at different rates.

Add in the off track, and Beyers become a way to lose way more money ... more confidently, though :P

No problem for Beyer, just go back to the NM races and change the numbers. Problem solved.

Kal nice defense of cranky ankle dude, that was class mentioning the Candian trainer.

I just watched the video replay which had Mark Johnson's call of the race. I guess Tom Durkin's call was only for NBC. I wanted to see if I was just caught up in the race and was so confused about who the horse was bursting down the stretch, or if Durkin did indeed miss the call. Didn't get Durkin's call, but Johnson's was great. Had Mine That Bird from the moment he burst through.

Where did you hear Mark Johnson's call? I'd like to hear that. I've been watching Durkins call on youtube (type in mine that bird then hit the one with post race around 7min, lots of Calvin). Not only did Durkin miss the stretch call he almost missed mentioning him at all when he was last on the backstretch, he says at one point "and last of all is Mr. Hot Stuff" when really MTB was even further back truly in last.
I would really love to see an aerial shot of the whole race, from what I could see it looked as amazing as that Silky Sullivan race someone posted here recently.
