A Handsome Thourghbred That Could

Postby Candie&Barbaro » Sun Aug 13, 2006 10:08 am

I cryed for weeks when i saw Barbaro fall! I couldn't believe my eyes! Barbaro, even though he is having a little trouble with his feet, he is still a very happy horse. He may be in pain, but he has so many poeple that love him and that makes him happy. I hope that he will make it, even though the odds are agaist him, he is the best throughbred. Some poeple hate horses, and hope that he dies. But Hopefully everyone here at this site loves him. I LOVE YOU BARBARO!! GET WELL SOON!!

Umm, I'm guessing that you are talking about Barbaro's "fall" in a metaphorical sense? Cause I sure recall seeing him injured and watching in horror as tried to run on and on...

A pretty vivid memory, his leg dangling and all. And I watched it over and over on the news for days after. Nope, no fall. Hmmm, I'm pretty sure a few other folks here may have caught this one, it was a pretty big race and all.

Hey cindie, I'm sure that little trouble with his feet is no big deal! I'm sure he'll be back soon, so be sure to put some money on him in next year's triple crown.

I think we're dealing with another young person here, who wants to express her feelings to what she thinks is a sympathetic audience.

Was the tone of that response really necessary?

Yes Barbaro did not fall, he broke his leg in more than twenty places, and the trouble with his feet is so serious that he is still more likely to have to be euthanized than not, but not everyone understands all the details and the errors in the posting are less important than the fact that she is upset and wished to express that.

break downs

Yes, it is a horrible site to see when a horse breaks a leg in a race, and one that I can never get over. As my daughter is a jockey, and has been in that position, it is even harder to see the horse AND her go down on the track. I remember a race at Gulfstream, when the last I could see before the camera's diverted was her injured and crawling over to ease the horse......her mother was almost on the plane before I could call the steward's and get assurance that my daughter was okay. She never gets over the loss of a horse when she has been riding it.

This was a concientous trainer, and that horse was fit, so it was a total surprise. What the general public doesn't know, that unscrupulous trainers often run horses that have a sore leg, and wind up breaking down on the good leg, as they run and try to stay off the injured leg.

I have seen many instances of this, and with my own horse, will not allow the 'medicating' to allow him to run when sore.
