Mountaineer

Postby galleria10 » Sat Mar 24, 2007 5:19 am

I have two three year old WV breds. I'm looking for a good trainer up at Mountaineer.
A good caretaker as well as trainer. Any info would be helpful.
Thanks

I don't think that's completely true. Maybe 97% true, but not totally. I have had horses at Mountaineer myself (Pre-kids!) and I pride myself on how I take care of a horse. Every horse was groomed, bandaged if they needed it, etc. and fed well, probably before we ate. Not everyone who runs at a track like Beulah, Thistledown or Mountaineer is a poor trainer or caretaker, they are just going where they can compete, or in the case of Ohio, have Ohio-breds.

I ran at Mountaineer for over 5 years, had very good racing luck and had two trainers,Susan Fisher and Doug Johnson, who both were very honest and took excellent care of my horses. I have moved my entire operation to Louisiana becuse of the purses and the weather. If you PM me I will be happy to give you their phone numbers.

I have used a trainer there with a couple of horses and have been very happy with the care afforded. He has found/diagnosed issues that prior trainers at larger tracks did not. He does not believe in keeping a horse stabled right at Mountaineer for any long duration because "it is not a good environment for a horse". If you have any interest, shoot me a PM and I'll hook you up.
