The worst named horse of all time contest

Postby Rokeby Forever » Sat Apr 21, 2007 12:38 pm

This might be fun.

What's the worst named horse of all time that you can think of?

Mine is Stinky Dinky. He was a terrible NY Bred that raced in the 1990s. I guess his name is so bad, Pedigree Query doesn't even give info about his dam. LOL!

Hi Rokeby,

But the Stinker had a little run in him, 94 races, 11 wins and $130,250 over an 8 year career. His dam info is there, you just had to put it in.

It's ironic because one of the best worst names in my opinion is the Judge Smells graded SW son (and sire), SMELLY. I guess a certain lack of respect is going to accompany a sire named Judge Smells.

My pick for the worst named horse is actually quite recent, (with an honorable mention to AWFUL, (1981).

Hi Pete,

You're right - the dam info did show up.

Stinky Dinky's 2nd dam was named Dinky Pinky. A quality family!

Best,
Rokeby

Hey now....you're talking about the first TB I ever galloped. ;)
He WAS a stinker, too. Oof. 'course, he got gelded after I had to deal with him....

As for the name....his owner/breeder had quite a warped sense of humor, rest his soul. It is rather dreadful. But I used to love how Tom Durkin would pronounce it during races. 'Stin-ky dinky' :)

That's funny, Lucy - small world!

Didn't Larry Kelly train him?

Weinerwatersoup...currently at our farm. She's named for some trend in the north woods of using the leftover water from cooking hotdogs over a campfire to make soup, weiner-water soup, of course! Um...Ew.

Dances With Cows...maybe appropriate for a QH cutter, but a TB????

Liver....no further comment required.

I nominate "Scorched Panties," a graded-stakes winning filly back in the mid-80's. I thin Dan Lassiter owned her.
More recently, "Hucking Hot," who was scratched during the post parade of this year's Ashland Stakes. You just know the track announcer was thrilled about not having to pay "extra close attention" calling that name during the race.

Then there's Marli's new addition, 'Wrap That Rascal'. How on earth did that get by the Jockey Club?
