fast?

Postby TB4sport » Tue Jul 24, 2007 10:37 am

Forgive me, I know very little of racing, but am trying to learn a few things. Can someone translate this to me?

6f sy :22 :45 :58 1:11

Does this mean the winning time was 1 minute 11 seconds for a six-furlong race? Is this fast, slow, or average?

What are the distances for the other times? Someone told me they were the "fractions", but at what point are they clocked/measured?

What does the "sy" mean?

Thanks!

6 furlongs (6f) is 3/4 mile...sloppy track (sy)...first quarter-mile (2f) in 22 seconds...a half-mile (4f) in 45 seconds...5/8 mile (5f) in 58 seconds...final time for the 6 furlongs (6f) is One minute and 11 seconds.

Best to you.

I think the clock starts 30 feet after the gate opens. Basically it starts at the 6 furlong pole but the gate is npositioned 30 feet in back of the pole. Or is it 50 feet?

Its slow, and sloppy.

When churchill is sealed its rocket fast, any first quarter in over 22, is slow

TB4, there are various speed figures (i.e. Beyer) available that can help you determine whether a race was considered slow, fast or average for a particular race at a track on a given day.

off the top of my head... that's a 6 furlong race in the slop with torred fast fractions and horses probably staggering home at the end.

1:11 for a 6Furlong race is going to be a higher end claimer on the big tracks (Curchill, Gulfstream, Saratoga, etc) and an Allowence at the "mid major tracks" Arlington, Oaklawn, Calder, Lone Star
