Impressive 2 year-olds

Postby Maven » Mon Jul 30, 2007 9:37 am

I figured we can keep track of 2 year olds that have caught our eye at the spa, or other places.

So far at the Spa meet, J Z Warrior and Sargent Seattle have both impressed me winning MSW.

J Z Warrior is a Harlan's Holiday who demolished her MSW field. She was certainly bred to be fast, being out of a fast Carson City mare and being a half to G3 Juvenile winner, E Z Warrior.

Sargent Seattle was also bred for speed. His dam was a very speedy and good race mare winning multiple stakes from 2 to 4, and was by the fast You and I.

I agree that JZ Warrior was impressive but go back and look at the ride Leparoux gave the second horse in that race. A little less trouble and I don't doubt JZ Warrior would have still won, just not by 10.

Gold Coyote by Gold Legend is one of the the best Texas breds in some time. Barring injury he'll be stepping up to the national stakes level in his next start possibly the Cradle stakes at River Downs. Clarence Scharbuer Jr bred and owns him and he's out of a Seeking the Gold mare that I assume they bought 10 years back or so when they were still prominent players on the national scene. He can darn sure run(1:03 flat for 5 1/2 furlons 3-4 weeks ago and 1:10:22 in the slop yesterday both races at LSP) .... just a matter of how far he can carry his exceptional speed.

Thanks, Horsenuts. Wasn't aware of this one. He certainly has enough stamina in his female family to get a mile to a mile 1/16. I've always been a fan of Gold Legend. Always thought he'd make a good regional stallion, and when the female family is there, he gets some good runners, ala Heritage of Gold.

What about Law Enforcement? He looked darn good breaking his maiden, and there's no shortage of stamina influences on the dam side.

And, my dear Maven...whom might Law Enforcement's 5th dam be?

Flitabout... it's amazing what you can get when you dont allow the Phipps to continue breeding the line. Thank God they got "rid" of the family 2 generations back.

1. there is a horse that broke his maiden, I want to say June 13th at Belmont.. Mark the point, or Make the point, either or.. very, very impressive.

2. I am very impressed by Bear Holiday the horse up in woodbine

3. right now I think the More than Ready Colt that won the stakes up at the spa last week is probably the best in the country at this point.. however I like Mark the point stretching out later in the year.

She's not a Storm Cat cull.

So, it's a sin that old man Phipps bought outside mares, but not a sin that others bought his? What?

Majestic Warrior was very impressive today. An Indy son out of a Dream Supreme. A Mott trained Kinsman colt.

I'll be checking out the horses out here in Maryland at Million Day and I might even slip out to Laurel to catch the Futurity. I like looking at the local steeds who might end up in the following year's Preakness (they usually get their butts handed to them).

I hope to get to the Spa next summer...start expanding my racing horizons again.... :D

Better keep an eye on Imaginary Sailor by Mizzen Mast and trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. He is 2 for 2 with an impressive stakes win. Of couse he's running on the West Coast but could come East for the BC.

I'm with Larry Gene on Imaginary Sailor. Good looking horse but a good young sire.

Law Enforcement ran like he's a heck of a prospect...try to watch his Saratoga rerun if you can.
