The Breeders Cup today: A disaster

Postby Georgerz » Sat Oct 27, 2007 9:28 am

Before we have to hear it from a pompous, know it all downer: This has been the worst Breeders Cup in history, the stands are empty, people are betting next to nothing, most of the horses scratched, and the ones still in can't handle the track, etc, etc, etc. (And the races haven't even started yet)
Good luck to all, and hope all the horses come back safe and sound.

It's not a disaster. They had the bad weather at Arlington a few years ago, and the stands are empty until a few minutes before the races. You can't blame people for going inside and staying dry. They'll come out for the races. Obviously the weather isn't ideal. But it would be no different at any other track if the weather was so shitty.

I am just trying to pre-empt the posting of something similar later on. Not for a second I believe this is the situation.

Weather at Churchill Downs: Partly cloudy, wind 6 MPH, high of 60 degrees.

It's so much more fun watching horses slip and slide in the goo. What was it...25 lengths back to the 3rd horse in the BC Juvie?

Today is a great day - there's actually a Giant's Causeway (My Typhoon) running in a BC race...how novel!

Well, the races have been exciting. I think.

Ooooh sarcasm. 8) I suggest being a tad more specific about intent for those of us only half paying attention to the boards as we watch the coverage.

Out of curiousity, are we expecting another intake record? Seems like yesterday was hopping along pretty well. $5 mil+ from the crowd braving the monsoon.

I thought ESPN sucked, but I thought the races were competitive and exciting! Other than George Washington and a horse bolting on the turf, it was uneventful. Horses pretty much got to run their races.

WHAT? If that's true, how bad is Rags To Riches if Lear's Princess was 10th?

Please keep in mind that Rags sustained a career ending injury in that race.

Curlin beat Lawyer Ron by less than a length in the JCGC. Today, the difference was the length of the stretch. Did the track have something to do with it, or did Pletcher forget to feed Lawyer Ron for last three weeks?

Lawer Ron is 2 for 2 on a sloppy track, so I'd say he can handle a wet track, and Curlin is just a developing good horse who has been well managed.

You don't think that too many nice horses ran poorly to conclude that the track made a difference? There was only one close finish all BC day - were the winners that superior to what they ran against?
