Heatseeker

Postby wilf » Tue Feb 12, 2008 10:32 am

Very good horse with a great name, was unlucky in defeat the other day and could be the "now" horse in the Big Cap on the synthetic. Seems to stay well and remember that the B C Classic is on this surface this year. Oh well I also thought that another opinion other than those of the troll might be refreshing.

I didn't have money on him but I like him too, although I was pleased that Well Armed won because I like Tiznow as a sire, and this is a crucial time in his stud career so I'd like him to do well. Is there a troll who doesn't like Heatseeker? I hadn't noticed.

i gotta be honest. Giant's Causeway has a couple that just might give him a 2nd grade 1 on dirt this year. Heatseeker being one of them. I love that name as well. although I always get him and rocketateer mixed up. li made a bet on rocketateer one day thinking it was heatseeker.

I really like Giant Frost down at Gulfstream. he has some serious talent on the dirt.

Had a lovely win on him today , I am aware that the race set up nicely for him with the maniac speed to run at and room to move , a couple of others ran well but he stays on strongly. Great stuff!!

I really liked his race today and hope he will get some respect now. Had some money on Mott's horse too.

Nice one Wilf, I can't wait to see Champs Elysees run next out, that was a Pyro-esque move he made when he dove to the rail while flying by horses, made it too late though

Wilf, Congratulations. Had the perfect trip didn't he? The one horse gets him at a mile and a half!

Champs Elysees was in far more trouble when he made his move. Also, if I'm not mistaken this was his first run off the turf. So he ran extremely well.

I'm not completely convinced that Heatseeker needed the really hot fractions, obviously some pace is good for his style, but the early leader really zoomed. I suppose he got away from Russell Baze?

IMO the race was a perfect set up for Heatseeker. Will he ever beat a top class field on his own. IMO no. Champs Elysees would not have caught him for another 1/4 mile...big deal, he was probably best on the day. I don't see anyone saying Heatseeker is the next big thing. He ran big, but was an opportunist today. No world beater.

I doubt too many horses get away from Russell Baze. Could he have been told to set it up for Awesome Gem and Flores?

His forte isn't exactly speed horses if you watch him a ton. HE isexceptional on tactical and closers. Good on speed.

Watching Hollendorfer move up a former Frankel horse gives great credibility as to why Jerry has dominated the Northern California racing scene for over a quarter century. If you want to compete with Hollendorfer you better be at the barn at 3:00 a.m. every morning cause he's their at 4:00.

Well, however Heatseeker turns out, he has provided us with some excellent racing recently. I'll look forward to the next outing of Champs Elysees, and lets not forget Go Between, who did not give up. As I said before, I believe Tiago will have his day in the sun, but perhaps not for some time.

As for Awesome Gem, he seems to be one of those horses who hasn't come back well from the B.C. It's almost as though a whole bunch of those horses that went to Monmouth went via Dubai. So many of them are never the same when they come back from Dubai, but I wouldn't have expected that of Monmouth. I am a big Awesome Gem fan so I hope he gets whatever it is he needs, whether it be a freshening or a smaller stakes to give him some confidence.

While I know that you guys all have well thought out arguments as to why the race unfolded as it did and another time with luck any one of two others may have shone, the simple truth is that Heatseeker is a rising star in a competitive handicap division this year,he is getting better all the time and looked like a beast on post parade and he galloped out as good as the placegetters. This horse's style always puts him in the thick of things and his consistency is to be commended. Whether or not any of these will show up on the east coast is a matter of opinion but a Grade 1 Million Dollar race trophy sure looks good on any mantelpiece. Oh by the way Ascot I have an unraced 3yr old by Tejano Run in training down here who looks just like him.
