He's special
I give.... May we have a triple crown winner this year. He did that far to easily

just like a woman.
I mean seriously... WHAT IN THE WORLD DID YOU EXPECT TO HAPPEN WHEN YOU PUT A LEGIT WORLD CLASS HORSE AGAINST A BUNCH OF GRADE 3 HORSES?
I mean really? of course he looks "special" compared to them. Now i have to go though the next week hearing how he is the best horse ever, how he can float, blah blah blah.. he's a world class horse, but again, let's not get carried away.
I have no question he can get a mile and a half.. but casino drive might get it better. that's the one horse who I think is on or anywhere near big brown's level. I dont' htink the talent level is that much different between the two

Gotta say, whatever happens in the Belmont, that was pretty. I was sad there wasn't a stronger field because it cuts into my level of enjoyment, but as romps over weak competition go, that was easy on the eyes. Looking forward to Casino Drive. One would think Kent knows better than to move too soon in the Belmont given Real Quiet, etc. but I won't assume. Big Brown might make him cocky. Wouldn't be the first time that's happened to an experienced jockey in the Belmont.

Boring-ass race. Boring-ass series. I still say he's a freak out-running his pedigree and needs to be gelded. Not denying he's a really good horse, but this effort today just underlines why he needs to race at 4. If he's really this much better than his contemporaries, then he needs to run against his elders and as a 4yo to PROVE he's as good as the hype.

i think his racing acculades have earned him the right to be a stallion, at least given him an attempt, but I agree with your point sam. he's a freak outrunning his pedigree.
I doubt kent is going to get big headed... he rode Casino drive in the Peter Pan and said on TV that if anyone is going to beat big brown it's going to be casino drive.

I'll agree he needs to proven by racing at least as a four year old before being retired to live on a stud farm. but it would be nice for the general public to get caught up in the idea that the Triple Crown is possible and if he did win it maybe get a slight boost to the general publics opinion of the Thoroughbred Industry instead of all the negativity that the press generally gives it.
"The rewards, whether for winning or for losing, offer almost irresistible temptations to race a two-year-old more times than are good for them." John Hay Whitney at the annual testimonial dinner in October 1963 for the Thoroughbred Club of America

Oye Sam....
Yes he ran against not much, and agreed he will find tougher competition with older... but I can get on board with a horse that barring an incident will likely win the TC... like it or not

BB
Take a look at the overhead of BB taking off at the top of the stretch. I don't care if Curlin was in that race - no one would get to him today.
Four ways he can lose the Belmont
- draw inside and get trapped, where he can't unload is free running stride
- Desormaux does something stupid (as have so many others)
- weird weather - surface issues
- the proverbial 'bad step', injury or sickness
I will say this, what made Affirmed so extraordinary was that he battled every inch of the way with Alydar. No issues of quality of competition there.

You [Ladies and Gentlemen, Kids and Seniors and not all] wouldn't truly recognize the best horse of his generation if you didn't own it.
Big Brown won the Preakness in his 5th start, undefeated
Affirmed won the Preakness in his 15th start and he lost 7 races before retiring.
Alydar lost the Preakness in his 16th start and he lost 12 races before retiring.
Seattle Slew won the Preakness in his 8th start, was undefeated, but eventually lost 3 races.
Whirlaway won the Preakness in his 25th start and he lost 28 races before retiring.
Citatation won the Preakness in his 18th start and he lost 13 races before retiring.
Count Fleet won the Preakness in his 19th start and he lost 5 races before retiring [only raced twice after the Belmont]
Secretariat won the Preakness in his 14th start and he lost 5 races before retiring.
You [Ladies and Gentlemen, Kids and Seniors and not all] wouldn't know well-bred if he/she was standing next to you.
Big Brown is coming out of much higher foal crops than our hero's of yesteryear.
Casino Drive has had but 2 starts before the Belmont. Of course, they quite often try their horses in matches against their own string, so he probably had at least three mini races before his first race and another after. In that case you can assume he's pretty good because a set usually includes 4 or 5 older allowance class runners and when he beats them at such a young age, they know he's a good one.
Why would you try to compare Big Brown against Casino Drive? Let him earn his own laurels, but not by lessening the deeds of another horse. You give him greater credence because of the excellence of his half brother and 3/4 brother. If he beats Big Brown and wins the Belmont, then he earns his own laurels, not simply because he is closely related.
George William Smith, and I was very pleased that the horse with the highest GSV ran first and the 2nd highest ran third [Icabad Crane].
