Okay.. Casino Drive or Big Brown, whose side are you on?

Postby bdw0617 » Mon May 19, 2008 7:56 am

I am already torn. I like Big Brown, and while I would like to see a triple crown winner, my emotions don't dictate what I think about a horse. I actually think Casino Drive might very well be better if not just as good.

I had to go back and look at that peter pan race at least 3 times, he didn't look all out and still ran a sub 1:48 9 furlong race.

But at the same time I don't' think Big Brown has been really asked to put it all out there yet. That to me is the real unknown. what is his all out like? Because if that's the best he can do, I think Casino Drive might be better. but i don't' think that's he best he can do.

a couple of things I know. First of all, if he wins the triple crown he will EARN it. Because it's going to take a sub 2:28 and 1ish to win that race.

Here is another thing. I want to see what big brown does when he has REAL pressure on him the entire race. hell the same goes for casino drive.

in the last two races, actually3, he has stalked horses who had no chance in hell of holding on to win. that's not stalking, that's waiting for a horse to fade and taking over the lead and not looking back. STalking Gayego is not the same as stalking hard spun, who if you left him alone will give you the pink slip.

thoughts?

I think most people aren't against big brown. My position is I like him.. I'm not in love with him, I just don't want to see him HANDED the triple crown.

if that makes any sense. however if casino drive is at 4 to 1 or higher i'm in.

Unless there is an unfortunate injury-NOBODY is beating Big Brown.

We could be on the brink of two very special occasions. Big Brown giving us our first Triple Crown Winner in 30 years, or Casino Drive giving Better Than Honour the most outstanding hat trick. What a choice.

But this brings up my dilema. Why am I (as appearently so are other people) not in love with Big Brown? With me it's almost a total apathy. I should be singing and dancing and extolling the greatness that is thoroughbred horseracing. But instead, I'm sitting quietly in my office avoiding the horseracing questions thrown in my direction.

How could I chose to root against winning the Triple Crown? But I probably will.

I'll be ecstatic if either horse wins! :D

Big Brown certainly looks to be unstoppable though ....

I would love to see a Triple Crown winner, personally. It would really draw some positive attention on the sport of racing.

To BB and CD - may you have a safe race, and may the best horse WIN!!! [/b]

Will it? I've no doubt it will draw attention, but will it be positive? With Dutrow announcing to the world that Big Brown gets steroids once a month, and Eight Belles drug report coming back negative for steroids, what message is that sending?

BDW-
Look at the Peter Pan again...... while Casino Drive was nice, I can't help but be drawn to Ready's Echo who came streaking out of nowhere to grab third. Had that race been a little longer.....hmmmm...... damn what would be good is a three horse phot finish.
trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while. :)

1. REady's Echo can run. that is by no stretch of the imagination a slap in the face to casino drive. if ready's echo had been in the preakness, i'm not so sure he wouldn't have been the 2nd best horse in the race. if nto for time off he'd be a household name.
\
2. go back and look at casino drive. just like big brown, casino drive stopped running about 6 seconds before the wire hit. the whip was put up and he was gearing down.

It's all about the capacity to dream big enough. I read and listen to people who are for BB and those that are against BB. Those that are for BB feel he deserves to win the TC. In other words, a dream come true!!! To me I get the feeling those that are against BB feel that he is undeserving and not bred royally enough to win the TC??? They also don't think he is a dream come true. By the naysayers tone, I get the feeling they are people who do not have the capacity to dream that big. That's sad!! And please don't give me that story about being realistic and other limitations. This is a game of hope and dreams. There is no limit. Both highs and lows. Its the high from dreams like winning the TC that keep some of us going. Possible but not probable. But, its still my dream!!!

My hope is that everyone who loves this game will for once let their emotions override their pragmatic lives and get behind a phenom named Big Brown that has the capacity to do something that 1000's before him has not done in 30 years. Damn, let's get excited for once!!!!!

hmmmm..... I wish I could have had a better view on Ready's Echo. It didn't look like he was getting much if any whip action about the time Desormeaux rested his on Casino Drive. I love the Belmont even more so this year. I think it is going to be a better stretch drive than we have seen thus far.

:?

umm. gotta disagree with you on that one man. I dont' think the people that don't want him to win dont' do so because of his BREEDING.

first of all, I don't think there are very many people who WANT him to lose.

I think most are like me, I want to see him HAVE TO ACTUALLY TRY!

I will tell you what it's like. it's like watching the let's say... Independance bowl in college football and the winner of that gets the national championship. you have the SEC team playing a 4th best or 5th best Big 10 school. it's no real match. yet everyone is asking why are you so down on the winner or likely winner?

it's not that you are down, you just aren't up.

this is HORSE RACING. not horse walk overing. I dont' want to see a walk over triple crown winner. that's all it is.
