Where are they?
2YO racing is getting in gear here---no mention of any that I've heard.
His 1st crop ARE 2YO's, right?
I've heard they're unimpressive looking, but you'd think someone would have run one by now.

It's only the beginning of June for pete's sake. Barbaro's brother only now put in his first official-ish breeze and he's not a late bloomer per se, he's normal. Check out Bloodhorse.com. They have a maiden watch blog thing going on and believe me they're following Smarty if and when something happens. Put some of Smarty's babies in your stable watch on DRF.com.

They did look immature, as a group. They also were slightly smaller. It appeared to me that his fillies looked better than his colts as a group.
I certainly wouldn't let their lack of starts so far dictate your opinion. Most of the better pedigreed and supported stallions have yet to have many, if any runners. If you haven't heard noise after Saratoga, then worry!

I realize Smarty had early promise but hit his noggin. Are we perhaps rushing and he'll actually give us some nice 3yos? I mean "immature" seems to come up a lot. I hope they don't get pushed excessively because his big spotlight came at 3 and maybe his boo boo forced his time off that let him mature for the Derby in the first place. Unfortunately "late-maturing offspring" is like saying "MacBeth" in a theatre.
And what's everyone's thoughts about the fillies v. colts thing. Could he be a better broodmare sire in the offing? I realize this is early. I don't know that smaller is worse. People act like it's a criticism. I see the mammoth yearlings and 2yos that are supposedly ideal and many are unsound messes. I'd much rather have a smallish horse that can do the job. If Smarty's the next Rahy, more power to him but I'm not really sure he's got quite the same thing going. Smarty's sound more shaky whereas Rahy's are better conformed right?
