Another blow to racing... Heatseeker retired

Postby choking » Tue Jul 01, 2008 11:05 am

This is rather upsetting.. another top older horse being retired. I'm sure they could have brought him back but I guess bringing him to stud was too tempting...

At least we have Curlin to look forward to....

Bring him back... I guess I am tained, but he is at the height of his career, his stud value isn't going to get higher if he comes back and isn't the same horse. Capitalize on the hand you are dealt.

Choke,

Why is this upsetting? Heatseeker never did enough to be a hero, or to help racing much.

Better to let him go be another questionable stallion and look for exciting two and three year olds that can capture some attention.

It's economical. His value is higher than it ever has been. Capitalize. The nature of the sport. Frankly I'd be more inclined to breed to a horse like HS than Giacomo.

Because he is one of the top older horses this year. Clearly the best old horse in the West. It's upsetting because I was looking forward to watching this guy run his races to the BC. I was hoping for a qualityt feld in the BC classic. It's upsetting because it's taking another quality star out of the game. He may not have done much but he was clearly coming into his own and ready to leave a mark. Now we're left with Tiago?? ;)

I don't even think Tiago is in the equation. He's not a synthetic horse. He's shown that time and time again. It's a shame

I like Tiago but sometimes he can be a plodder. For the Breeders Cup at Monmouth I was at the railing as they brought everyone to the track and he looked like he was sleeping. Guess sometimes he feels like running and other times he don't. But.. got a great picture of AGS going up on his hind legs that day.

You are right, Choke, we need some stars in the game. Those breed fees are too aluring I guess.

I wil be interested to see if the economy slows down breeding enough so that some folks find it more beneficial to race their older horses.

I hope so. It would be good for the game.

He would have needed 6 months off, and by the time he returned to the track he'd be a 6 year old. I can't get too upset about them retiring a 5 year old horse in this scenario. Suspensories are hard to come back from.

I'm very disappointed because I was really looking forward to seeing him run in the BC, but it's not the outrage some other early retirements have been, in my eyes.
