Match Race

Postby George William Smith » Mon Mar 30, 2009 8:43 pm

I'm shocked that no one on this list is talking about the sparkling performance I performed at Gulfstream Park this past weekend.

Were you watching some reality show or had seen too many reality shows to not realize my spectacular performance over 9 furlongs at Gulfstream?

A certain top breeder and her advisor worked for several generations to produce me. She was the best, always interested in the welfare of my brethren first. She had lots of success along the way, but I might be the best of them all, but then I'm biased.

Oh yeah, there was another nice horse that ran 9 furlongs on the same weekend. He' ran a pretty good time too and he is kinda cute, but compare his race to mine and I'd would have whomped him....my bias again

I was bred specifically to get Classic distances at a speed to win Classic races, not that it works very often.

I want a Match race against him, especially if he wins the Derby. I'll be running on Oaks Day, but not in the Oaks. Those immature fillies would just get beat up and I wouldn't want to dispirit them. And don't you dare ask my age. It's not nice to ask a lady her age.

On March 28, 2009 on the rocket-fast track, the 1st race was 6 furlongs for MSW and run in 1:09.24. The 2nd race was at a mile for allowance 3yo's. The winning time was 1:35.89. The 4th race was MSW at a mile in 1:36.08. The 7th race was an allowance at 7 furlongs 1:21.95. The Swale (9th race) went in 1:20.88. Quality Road covered his 9 furlongs in 1:47.72 in the 10th race.
· Quality Road ran ~23.60, 23.40, 23.60, 24.60 and 12.40
· Quality Road ran 23.60, 47.00, 1:10.60, 1:35.20, and 1:47.72.

On March 29, 2009, the 1st race was 9 furlongs on a fast track in 1:55.67 for maiden claimers. The 2nd was a MSW at 6 furlongs in 1:11.92. The 3rd was a MSW at a mile in 1:37.38. The 5th race was an allowance over 7 furlongs in 1:23.28 on a good track. The 6th race was at a mile for claimers that went in 1:38.96. The 8th race was a mile in 1:36.89 as the track remained good. The 9th race was won by yours truly (see below). The 10th race was a mile for maiden claimers that was won in 1:40.24 (good).

I ran the first corner 7 off the rail to give them a chance, then moved down to the 2-3 path. I won wire-to-wire.
· I ran 23.31, 23.46, 24.05, 25.01 and 13.07. I was faster in the beginning on a much slower track and finished within 5 lengths of Quality Road time on that rocket track.
· I ran 23.31, 46.75, 1:10.80, 1:35.81 and 1:48.88.(~ 7 seconds faster than the 1st race)
I wonder if I how fast I can really run without makeup and high heels

I hope you don't mind taking my picture in my work clothes. I'm 17 hands so if I wear heels I might not fit in your picture. lol

Match Race

Postby horse » Thu Apr 02, 2009 6:22 pm

Proposing a Match Race between Quality Road (colt of '06) and One Caroline (filly of '05) in today's overly protective society of PETA persons wouldn't do much to enhance the Sport of Kings. Be apprised of the last such event, the 1975 tragedy in the Ruffian -v- Foolish Pleasure duel .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsi_ixx4pAY .... it would not be prudent to stage such an event, predicated on the 'political correctness' of the times. Nor do I believe the connections would be receptive to such an exhibition, even if the concept was driven by public opinion.

I know G.W. Humphrey, owner (One Caroline) and Le Roy Jolley, trainer (Foolish Pleasure). Giving full respect to their positions within the Thoroughbred Industry, a seriously doubt emerges, if either would endorse such a competition. The best chance to evaluate their combined racing ability would be to have them entered in one or more of the Classic Races following the Triple Crown events, if the connections of Quality Road break from tradition to race against aged horses and the connections of One Caroline decide to race against the boys. Barring injury, speculation will run rampant as long as they never meet.

That is exactly the problem in our sport today. No one is willing to take a stand. Actually train horses, model young bone into steel to sustain further training and to maximize performance according to the genetic potential and the skill of their trainers.

What would be really interesting if it were possible to compare the muscular, skeletal and cardiovascular efficiency of todays horses. It is possible scientifically, to gather that data and distribute to the public so we could really know who is helping the horses to perform and who is assisting in catastrophic breakdown.

With 5 times as many starts as yesteryear, the evidence is that there was only 1/5 as many times fatal breakdowns.

Since mares can only produce a limited number of foals, wouldn't it be great if we forced our top colts to race through age 6 for the really big purses and let our mares retire earlier than that if they wished.

One Caroline was built to be as solid as a rock if well handled. We could use less horses racing more often and longer so the public could become attached to the really good ones.

I thought your post was excellent, but sometimes we have to take a stand for something you love and against others who know nadda about real animal abuse and demand that they give factual information instead of using straw men and anonymous sources.

I thought the post was funny. "Be apprised" I mean who doesn't know about Ruffian? :? Anyway I thought you were joking about a Match Race because in today's world it surely is not going to happen....but nevertheless, it is interesting to talk about!

have to agree with george....."this is exactly what the sport needs"...stirs interest in a sport thats lacking it..........TO HELL WITH PETA ...who are they but a bunch of wacko's....not even borderline at that ! what are we all supposed to operate in the darkness so as not to bring attention to our wonderful sport ? ruffian. eight bells, go for wand....all tragic and heart wrenching.........but the game goes on as it should....there born to run and run they must.

Ah...an across the sea elitist. What can you do if you can't bully. Damn, I'm intimidated. Might have to quaff a few beers to get my courage up.

Oh wait. I don't need any excuse to quaff a few beers. Thanks for reminding me. Off to the fridge.
