19.4 first quarter? are you freaking kidding? and held on and broke the course record.

The course record stands, but the first quarter split is not right. I mean look at it, there is no way a horse could run 2f that fast, and still run another 9f. The fastest QHs in world can't go that fast.

I've been watching Presious Passion for about a year now, ever since last year's Pan American..
He's put in a few real nice races lately.

I think the 19.4 is an anomaly of the course configuration. If he really went 19.4 for the first quarter then he would have had to have drastically slowed down to a 25 and change second quarter, then sped up to a 24 flat third quarter. I think because of where they had the railings, it moved the first beam used was closer to the start than a true 1/4. Realistically he probably went 21 and change for the opener.

As for QH's, I believe the best go faster than 19.4.

Thank goodness the breeder ignored the werk rating. On the other hand perhaps the breeder used the G1 Goldmine and found 23+ graded winners with Nureyev and Nijinsky both in the pedigree. Nureyev over Nijinsky gives a very impressive 1.42 VGS (for those not familar with this tool, it simply means that there were 142% more graded stakes winners with Nijinsky on the bottom of the pedigree as opposed to the horses that had Nureyev on top and no Nijinsky on the bottom of the pedigree). Interesting differences between the two tools.

Anyone have any way of validating or invalidating the :19 4/5 first quarter of Presious Passion?

This is a hot topic of conversation in other places and I was discussing this at Monmouth Park after the race.

Anyway you look at it, it was a spectacular race, but the first click is pretty fast...

Opening fraction has been corrected to 22 1/5

That is more like it, and that is still fast!

I just saw this race . . .WOW. Scampering away that first quarter, hell the first half, he looked like a puppy that was chasing a stick...you know when they just go hell bent with legs flying? To settle down after that and hold the lead...amazing. Rare talent.

I got goosebumps watching that race. This horse is a ton of fun to watch operate. At the fractions he clicks off, the last 1/16 or so is all heart.
And DOWN the stretch they come!

It is a shame he is a gelding, he's got a lot to offer in the stamina department. And he had energy to spare after that race..
Does anyone know if Hartmann has commented on Breeder's Cup plans?
