Trainer in Del Mar???

Hello,
we are planing on buying a couple 2yr olds and put them into training in Del Mar. Are there any trainers in Del Mar? Or is everybody kinda working in Santa Anita and driving their horses down to Del Mar?
Any recommendations?
Im also already looking online for partnerships in Del Mar but if someone knows something i would appreciate it....

I have a friend stabled at Santa Anita and Hollywood Park. He's young, hard working and very accomplished....he races at Del Mar as well. San Louis Rey (sp?) might be a place to look as well. If these are green babies,a training center might be a good thing!

You don't want to start babies at a place like Del Mar. Green Valley Training Center in Chow Chilla or somewhere similar is much the best. Too busy, not the right facilities, and trainers are there racing, not breaking horses.

In honesty, it sounds like you need to talk to more people before leaping in.

I agree with Tbrace...do as much research, ask questions, visit different trainers and owners, etc before you spend/invest any money.

Especially considering Del Mar will run you about 125$ per day when all is said and done.

If you take a two year old there to start training, he won't even be ready by the time the meet ends, and you will have spent around $10k on training.

Be cautious, and do it right. There is always someone willing to agree with you and take your money, even if its the wrong thing to do for you and the horse.

You most likely wouldn't even get stalls for 2yos at Del Mar unless your trainer has a ton of winners in his barn. Best not to plan for a specific meet with 2yos and just try to get them to the races, period, somewhere.

taking the horse up to Santa Anita?
We live in San Diego - is there something arround SD because i would like to see some morning works and just see how he/she is doing.
I would be finde with L.A. i just want the horse to be in good hands...
now i know that im only a small owner with one or two horses but i want them taken care of.

San Luis Rey is amazing. You would really like it. It is very natural, compared to a racetrack environment, and even offers European-style trails for the horses to break from their regular training routine. Call the main office and ask for a personal tour from Laura.

I was just using Green Valley as an example, and said so in the post.

Is there something wrong with Green Valley, though? They work for Doug O'Neal, Baffert, and lots of big trainers. We have sent horses there with great success.

But, clearly, there are lots of other places, I just don't want to disparage Green Valley by using them as an example. Perhaps I misread the intent of your post?

I dont think that Irene ment it in a bad way, its just there is ALOT of training centers in Ca. I have never heard of Green Valley myself.
Ill have to look it up.

Yes i was just saying there are lots more training centers in CA. Green valley is far from where he or she is looking.
