I'm pretty sure that Woolley only won two races all year, the Ky Derby and a maiden race, so I can't blame them for making a change with a good horse. If he'd brought the horse up all along, it would be rotten, but the horse came to him racing fit from Mandella, and seemed to have won the Derby coming off of Mandella's training. And it is quite clear that MTB needs to run in a cool climate. Training in NM is a bad deal for him. He ran great in Canada, ran last on a hot day at SA in the Breeders Cup (which is why Mandella shifted him out), ran the race of his life in KY on a cold day, ran poorly again in SoCal in the Breeders Cup. Like Funny Cide, he needs cool weather to run well. They ought to make sure he gets to Saratoga this year. That is not a horse for Dubai.

I remember when Lukas was shopping around for a track to try to get Louisiana Slew a stakes win (which he did successfully do, eventually), he was quoted as saying something like, "I have owners that can afford to spend $25,000 to fly a horse wherever I need to run it. If they can't afford that, they probably ought not to be in my barn." Very true.

Maybe Wayne's whole cowboy persona had something to do with him getting MTB, shame though I'd much rather see a guy like Shug get him...ah well I'll still be rooting for him.
I think he ran pretty nice all year last year. The Preakness was a good try (better than Super Saver's), He should have never been on poly those last two races of the year, the only real clunker other than poly was the WV Derby and even that wasn't too bad. By the way why hasn't he even brezzed this year it's almost June.

Wayne's cowboy persona has always been interesting.
A high school basketball ex-coach from Michigan.
Not exactly growing up on the old range.
When he was training quarter horses at Manor Downs in Manor, Texas in the 70s, he commented that all those Texans had big white hats. He's had one on ever since.

I believe when he was Canadian champion he did run on all-weather surfaces up there. That's why I thought the heat was the issue in SoCal rather than the poly. I thought he ran very well in the TC. That really elevated him in my eye, because I thought he was a flash in the American pan before the Preakness. But no bueno for s**t in SoCal.

Borel took him in 48 seconds for the half today. DRF says the splits were 12.40 and 24.20, with a five-furlong gallop-out time of 1:01.40. Looks like he's coming along. I still think he's a classy lil guy. It would be great to see him get another graded stakes win.
