okay trainers and owners

please explain to me how frank calabrese makes money by taking allowence horses and shoving them down everyone's throat every race. i'm quite curious to hear this.

He used to claim he lost $100,000 every year ont he horses. Claiming for $20,000 and running back for $7500 regularly to get the win kinda makes that seem like a low number. He wants to be leading owner. Egos are expensive things to maintain, methinks.

That being said, he gambles alot and at a high level (to me anyhow) and I think he cashes more tickets than he tears up. Apparently his printing co. can afford to support the horse habit.

H eis great to claim off of, though. I have claimed 2 off of him, 1 for 25 and 1 for 5. The $25.000 horse won 2 stakes and placed in 2 others, the $5,000 horse was stakes placed twice for me. :D

He also enjoys winning the leading owners title at AP year over year. This seems to be far more important than appropriately spotting his horses! It's very frustrating to enter you horse where it belongs only to have his moderately successful GP allowance horse dropped into your $10,000 NW of 3!

Interesting question!

I have heard this reason being discussed at the track as possibly one of the major reasons for the huge drop. There's nothing appealing for bettors when horses at 9-5 cream a bunch of overmatched (but otherwise well placed) foes time and time again. It's not good for racing from any angle except his own.

you are dead on.

i watch.. every once in a while i wager, but no where near as much as i used to. i love arlington. but dude, there are too many tracks going on at once, to have tio even attempt to bother to try to figure him out every race.

he is ruining the track and they need to take action.
