fred pope is like a red flag to a bull to me. i can be impolite to him here. what fool would take horse racing back to Congress and the committee headed by John Conyers, when in the early 2000s horse racing just barely survived its last forray there. Pope is always trying to figure out how to split up a small pie instead of expanding the pie. His solution--contract everybody out of business and make it the sport of kings and princesses, like in Japan.

He makes sense to me. Something has to be done to bring revenue back to the tracks and the owners of the horses ( larger purses ).

Here Richard Eng opines "Lower takeouts would benefit sport". Nice to see somebody refer to racing as a sport instead of an industry.
