Hello all: I talked to Roberto Roman Rulers groom, and he said the RR is doing super at this moment. He will go to NY for the Gotham if it keeps raining here, as the main track is too hard to take a chance of RR being injured.

The 45 inches of rain that has fallen this winter has caused lots of injuries to our TB. March is the last month of our rainy seson here so were almost out of the woods.

I don't blame any CA trianer with a Derby horse changing plans and getting out. The weather has been awful. The big problem is the tracks aren't set up, composition wise, to deal with it. They are set up to retain moisture rather than release it, like our tracks here. They have a higher clay content and tend to get "greasy".

Although one key handicapping factor this year, all the CA horses have worked a lot in the wet. If the Derby comes up wet, it's not so much a negative on CA horses as other years.

Some TB can handle off surfaces, and some cant. When an owner and trainer know their TB cant handle an off surface and run any way they would be better off to stay in the barn. As their TB would be injured or cause an accident to other riders.

Roman Ruler next start will be on Mar 19 either in the San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita or the Gotham in NY.

Today Roman Ruler worked a mile from the gate in 138.3 at Santa Anita.
Bob Bafert is still undecided on which race will be Roman Rulers next start.
