FRANKEL!!

Postby da hossman » Wed Jul 27, 2011 8:25 am

Frankel's acceleration was breathtaking as he simply left Canford Cliffs in the stretch! If you did not see the G1 Sussex Stakes this morning, go to youtube.com and prepare to be blown away by his performance.

Facing older horses for the first time, including last year's Sussex winner Canford Cliffs, who recently defeated Goldlikova, Frankel took the lead from the start with Canford Cliffs sitting 2 lengths back. Within the last 1/4 mile the rider sat down and Frankel simply exploded, opening 4 lemgths within a few strides and coming home 6 lengths the better of Canford Cliffs. A very impressive performance by the 3 yo that was the highest rated miler in the world prior to this race.

Well-named, what a wonderful tribute to the late great Bobby Frankel by his longterm employer Juddmonte.

This horse is now my new heartthrob! Wow, he is magnificent. And the way he casually loped along after the race, it was like he could go another couple of miles.... Hope he's in the Breeder's Cup. :)

I just got into Frankel's pedigree (for some reason I thought he was by Giant's Causeway, not Galileo) and there is a comment that in this race, Frankel was clocked for a furlong in 10:13, i.e., 42 m.p.h. And he is absolutely beautiful physically. 8)

Everything about that race was impressive.

Afterward Sir Henry Cecil called Frankel, "...one of the best I've ever seen."

He is beautiful! I saw that race too and was blown away.

Is Frankel only a mile long racer? On TV today they said something about him being in the Breeders Cup Mile.

Also, how did he get over there if he was bred at Juddmonte? Was he purchased here and sent over there?? I'm confused about that.

And also named Frankel, after Juddmonte's American trainer. Glad he is doing great as it was just a loss to have the trainer pass on like that.

Could he run in the BC Classic or do you all think he is only a miler?

thanks

he very well might could get an american 10F (i think just about all european milers could get 10F in america) but dance with the girl that brought you to the prom so to speak.

If one watches all of Frankel's races, one has to doubt his ability to get 1 1/4 miles. Obviously his connections do, and who would know better than they?

Erhrdt, Juddmonte is Khalid Abdullah's operation, and it is a breed to race operation. Most of the Juddmonte horses begin their racing careers in Europe, and those over age 3 are often raced in America. Frankel has never been through a sale.

Let's hope they do bring him to the Breeders Cup!

Great race! I believe Winter Memories would have beat him today though.

Nice filly, good effort after a bad stop but that was one of the best older milers in Europe that Frankel just took apart in his race. Goldikova probably can't beat Frankel--the horse that came in second in the Sussex just beat her-- and Winter Memories is no Goldi.

Yes, Frankel is a very brilliant miler. Also he would not just have a distance issue but a surface one if they ran him in the BC Classic. Frankel has never run on dirt.

Thank you for the info everyone. He indeed is a gorgeous horse. I would hate for them to try him on something that he is not used to or excel at and ruin that unbeaten record.

Also glad that the horse they named after Bobby Frankel is a champion. Too bad he is not around to see him. Cancer sucks. I lost my Dad recently in less than a year after diagnosis and we were told he had an 80% chance of survival.

I guarantee this horse was not named until it was realised he could be very special! I am not so sure how sound mentally and physically he would have been under American racing/training conditions unless his namesake had him in his barn, however he is with a truly great trainer and has been allowed to become a legend at his own pace. Canford Cliffs trainer said that either the winner is a freak or Canford never really ran his race, I suspect both observations are true!
