There are many here that may not be aware of the necessary role drugs play in horse racing in America as well as the entire world. Of course there are cheaters who will do anything to get a horse into a race as some of our esteemed posters are kind enough to post daily. While taking from the small group of outright cheaters looking to change the outcome of a race by any means possible. I certainly do enjoy reading these articles, because every time another cheater is caught, it's one less of these out right cheaters who won't be corrupting the race business anymore. Let me see, I guess they find this out miraculously, since we have certain posters stating that racing is going un-monitored in America...hmm? On the other hand there are the 99+% who use drugs as they were meant to be...as an aid to get horses in training through some bad days along the way. Of course there are a small percentage of honest trainers who get caught up in medication errors, withdrawal time mistakes and dosage miscalculations on allowed pre-race drugs. If these guys really wanted to cheat they would do it with something the states aren't testing for....seems logical, wouldn't you agree? Same thing like when you wake up in the morning and feel a cramp in your leg, a stiff neck, a sore back, tennis elbow, etc. We reach for the Advil....good thing we aren't tested because I'm sure you don't take what the recommended dosage states on the bottle...99% will double and triple the recommended dose to avoid the pain they feel. Luckily we aren't being drug tested....unless you are a professional athlete in an organized and test monitored sport. Is it really that hard to understand drugs in horses are as helpful to them as they are to us?
Here is a 3 part video by a Paulick Report contributing writer. She has good credentials and with the help of Dr. Peter Morresey of Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital (one of the most respected hospitals in the industry) and trainer Dale Romans (eclipse award winning trainer)....they try to break down the hows and whys of drugs in racing.
