At this point, my Derby superfecta is : California Chrome, Wicked Strong, Candy Boy/Hoppertunity (I can't decide here) and Medal Count.
Longshot: Medal Count. Why not?

Re: Who do you like?
California Chrome -- on performance to date, he's the best horse as far as any of these young horses have been asked to run. He's an eye-catcher too.

California Chrome
I still like Beyarn, I think he was short last race.
I think Untappable is better than every horse in the derby not California Chrome

I think California Chrome is the class of this years crop. Should be OK at the Derby distance.
But it's the Kentucky Derby, and anything can happen.

Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.

No doubt he's got class and will be favored. But the Derby usually isn't about favorites and I like the old angle of the horse that showed form as a 2yo and has done well, not necessarily brilliantly at 3. Ride on Curlin fills that bill - and Curlin was tough and so is this guy. His Ark Derby run went 6 wide when if he had simply followed Danza, Danza would not have looked so brilliant, though he may not have got him.

Looking to beat California Chrome with Wicked Strong, Medal Count,Candy Boy, Ride On Curlin or Social Inclusion. I'll narrow it down as Derby day approaches.

Re: Who do you like?
I like Hoppertunity more and more, he drew post 11. California Chrome got a good post 5, and it appears most of the speed drew near him (except Wildcat Red at 10). Medal Count got a good post as well.
A horse I've liked all along (Candy Boy) got post 18, I don't think he can overcome that. I still think Ride On Curlin will be useful in the superfecta, even with the 19 post.

Re: Who do you like?
Hi Ben
A longshot possibility might be Medal Count. He seems to be on the improve, his running style fits here, and he should be even better at 10 furlongs. After drawing the #1 spot, I'm replacing Vicar's In Trouble with Medal Count for my exotic bets. The 19 hole is also a bad draw for Ride On Curlin (with Calvin liking to hug the rail). I may have to reconsider him too (maybe Hoppertunity).

Re: Who do you like?
California Chrome's sire has a very respectable 24% winning percentage for his off track starters. Pulpit has been an excellent mud sire. Not For Love is no slouch either. I don't think an off track will have any adverse effect on CC's performance. The thing that worries me most is for him not breaking sharply out of the gate. He has a history of coming out a little slow. If he does that, he could get pinched back early like he was in the Santa Anita Derby. Luckily he was able to recover in that race, not so sure if he could in the Derby with this large field. I wish he would have drawn farther outside, but that's the luck of the draw.
