Dynever and Stellar Jayne, expatriots

Postby StrawberryFelidos » Thu Mar 24, 2005 7:22 pm

Apparently a few changes have taken place in the racing world, as two horses I once knew to be American-based are now in Saudi Arabia...and one even has a new name (Ittasak? well, that's unique). How and when exactly did this happen :!: :?: I just found out last night that Stellar is an ex, and my head has been rolling for weeks about "Ittasak" and his new life- last big thing I remember about him was when he was labeled "the next hot thing" on the '03 Derby trail!

Stellar Jayne was sold for 3.6M by her previous owner at last November's Keeneland sale. I believe Darley was the buyer.

Dynever (and Kissin Saint  ) were both sold to Buckram Oak back in late January. Both prepped at Payson for a couple of weeks before being sent to Saudi Arabia for the King's Cup (which Dynever finished 2nd in). As for the 'new name', I believe it's more a change of necessity than an official one (I don't think "Dynever" translates well and "Kissin Saint" would probably be offensive for several reasons). As far as I know, Dynever is going to be called "Dynever" when he runs in the World Cup this Saturday.

I just read on DRF, that Stellar Jayne will be coming back to North America (Belmont to be exact). Sheikh Mohammed will have about 10 horses campaigned in the US, maybe more.
I believe it said they will be pointing her to the Distaff, and she will be returning in the summer. Also, Grand Hombre will be coming back, as will Balletto.

Balletto- yes! I missed Balletto these past few months. Always thought she had a lot under the hood, although it seemed like we hadn't seen the half of it. Second to Sweet Catomine, not bad, not bad...and beat a lot of horses who've gone on to be US winners :)
Say, if she's coming back does that mean she didn't exactly wow in the European/Dubai circuit? I thought she was staying there for good.

I believe it was reported that Balletto had been injured, but I don't recall what the injury was. The article mentioned that she would be back in action during the summer (if all goes well).

Could it be that Dynever's new arabic name actually has the meaning "always second place"?

I'd love to have a horse who finished second as many times and in the races he has.

No denying that he is a good horse and I also would love to own him. However I would be greatly frustrated by his inability to "close the deal".

Darley has him because he was not marketable as a stallion in KY; no American stallion managers could make the deal work without a big win. Dynever had every stud farm in KY hot on his tail for quite some time - think how hot a dirt son of Dynaformer would be! A young stallion representing the Roberto line....what could have been.

He is still not marketable in Ky as a stallion prospect, especially when the World Cup field was arguably the least impressive ever.

Kind of an aside, but I believe Stellar Jayne's half-sis by Dynaformer, millionaire Starrer, just had a last crop foal by Danzig. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure she and the foal had a pic in Blood-Horse a week or two ago. Seems to be a nice female family. Devon Lane (by Storm Cat) is another half-sib. Not much of a runner but a proven regional sire.
