Temperance Hill Invitational S

Postby TJ » Fri Oct 03, 2014 8:11 pm

The Temperance Hill Invitational Stake will be run over 1 5/8th miles on Belmont's main track Saturday. It's been a very long time since they carded a race at this distance over the main track. The track record for this distance is held jointly by Man O War (1920 when he won the Lawrence Realization by 100 lengths over his only challenger, setting a then world and track record) and Kelso, who tied his record in winning the 1960 Lawrence Realization. Man O War and Kelso ran the distance in 2:40 4/5 seconds. Lately we've been seeing these longer distances popping up with decent purses, recently 1 3/4 miles at Saratoga (Birdstone S) and Parx put up a 1 1/2 race over dirt (Greenwood Cup S)....might be the start of something interesting?
There were 14 invited to the Temperance Hill, but only 6 braved the challenge. Entries and PP's below. TJ

I love these longer dirt races.

Since Jacobsen has had Slim Shady, he's dabbled in everything:
7F on turf, 8F on turf, 9F on turf, 8F on dirt (taken off turf), 8.5F on turf, 14F on dirt, 12F on turf, and now 13.5F on dirt.

I like Ever Rider in this.

Good one Cree. I thought the ten pounds Village Warrior got from Ever Rider would give him an edge....but didn't happen. Real nice race, hope we see more of them. TJ

You had some excellent choices as well. I do hope they keep these races up and maybe bring back that BC Marathon.

EVER RIDER (gr/ro h 2008) http://www.pedigreequery.com/ever+rider

Wow, the oldest horse with the highest weight impost along with a
very slow track condition, plus coming from another hemisphere
with the appropriate jockey won the race. Good for him. Congratulations!
