Bayern: Can he win at a mile and a quarter?

Postby Bobster » Wed Oct 15, 2014 9:48 am

Bayern has been brilliant running at distances from 7 furlongs to a mile and an eighth. But he has failed miserably both times going further in distance. He will be one of the favorites in this upcoming Breeders' Cup Classic. Can he win this race going a mile and a quarter?

I don't think he will win but I think he will be competitive. Likely to hit the board but I think this is Shared Belief's race.

They'll have that track so souped up, which could help him, but I don't think he's as good as some of these other ones, and I think the distance might be a little too much for him. I don't think he should go in the Classic, but I guess they have Fed Biz for the Dirt Mile. Bayern is a Malibu horse in my mind.

With an inside post he could be dangerous. He ran huge at Santa Anita and may relish the return to the track.

I think he's a very good horse, but not at his best at a mile and a quarter.

I think that wiping out of the race three or four rivals at the start makes it a poor win. I'd be glad to still get the money, but wouldn't boast about the race.

Just one more reason to get the BC out of California....

Run the race - the one that's really worth winning.

That was terrible. I can't even stand to watch the replay.
I hope Chrome stays in training and heads to the Cigar Mile, or something. He really needed this race.

Bayern makes one compare him to Black Tie Affair.

Both won the Breeders Cup Classic at 10 furlongs
in front-running performances against the best competitors,
thanks to fortuitous circumstances. But beyond this
unfortunate drama there is one emerging astonishing
paradigm to keep on mind for the future.
Namely, Bayern possesses a sui-generis
sustainable front-running speed that seems to me
very auspicious and desirable for his future career as
a broodmare sire.

When Black Tie Affair became a sire he was sort of
disregarded due to his modest record as a sire
but now has become a solid broodmare source.
In a similar way, no one knows for sure
at this time if Bayern will succeed as a sire, but with
his kind of running style, looks to me that he may
well become an important broodmare sire source.

Jorge, I love the female family on him. But it hurts him to be a son of Offlee Wild - who just got exported to Turkey. Don't you think?

It was a little surprising to read that Offlee Wild was exported but
I expect Bayern to be his best overall son. Not because of Offlee
Wild, but because of Bayern himself --- Bayern certainly looks like a very
special Thoroughbred. Oh yes! that female side influence is a gem.
