This should probably properly be posted under International Racing, but this 2YO Scat Daddy filly, trained by Wesley Ward, had a single start, winning on dirt at Keeneland, then shipped to England to score this amazing win in the Queen Mary S. (Gr2) on wet turf. What a thrill to see!

Hi Patuxet,
That was such an impressive race on so many levels for a 2YO filly over the turf for the first time. Yet not so tough for her trainer Wesley Ward...this being the 3rd time since 2009 that he's won the Queen Mary Stakes. You may recognize her silks as well...Lady Aurelia was bred and is owned by Stonestreet Stables of Rachel Alexandra fame. TJ

Lady Aurelia's ownership appears to be somewhat more complicated. George Bolton & Peter Leidel are on record as purchasers of the filly for $350,000 at the 2015 Keeneland Sept. yearling sale. On Equineline her Owner is listed as "Stonestreet Stables/G Bolton/P Leidel". Perhaps Barbara Banke cut a joint deal with them and the Keeneland sale was merely a formality to establish value for tax purposes or something? According to Equineline, Stonestreet Stables also jointly owned Rachel Alexandra with Harold McCormick.

Not only has Wesley Ward trained three winners of the race but Lady Aurelia makes it two in a row for him, both sired by the late Scat Daddy. What a pity he died so young, last Dec. at only age 11.

Hi Patuxet,
Most all of Stonestreet (Barbara Banke) runners are in partnership. Yes, that was a huge two in a row for Scat Daddy babies and Ward. Last years winner, Acapulco (who won the Queen Mary as a maiden after one 3rd place finish on the dirt at CD) just won a Stake race at CD last month (the Unbridled Sidney Stakes)...she's two for two as a 3YO this season. But Lady Aurelia looks like the best Ward's ever sent to the Queen Mary. According to Ward she will remain in Europe until there are races for her in the States. “We will probably keep her based over here, I need to talk to the owners. It all depends on where her next start will be but that hopefully will be the Molecomb ([G3] at Glorious Goodwood) and then onto the Prix Morny (G1), I just need to see if the owners agree. We probably won't go to the Nunthorpe (G1) with this filly. I'd like to space her races out. There is nothing in the United States on the grass for a filly like her at the moment. TJ
