Will a $5,000 or less stud fee win the Kentucky Derby?
1. Bellamy Road by Concerto-Hurry Home Hillary by Deputed Testamony
2. High Fly by Atticus-Verbasle by Slewpy
3. Greater Good by Intidab-Gather the Clan by General Assembly

All three top contenders, All three from the Nearctic or Northern Dancer sire line.

I hope so. It will be a great thing for smaller breeders...and a nice wake-up call for the breeding AND racing industries!

I could be wrong, but wasn't Northern Afleet's fee quite low at the time Afleet Alex was conceived?

And yes, I agree wholeheartedly...these top runners out of "value" sires is a good thing for the industry.

The super-high stud fees of proven sires tend to be heavily skewed to horses who will win early--think Storm Cat, Unbridled's Song, Forestry, etc.

Many of the less-fashionable stallions are the kind whose get want a route of ground, which generally means that they will need a bit more time.

Also, consider the mares of these horses.
