Marty Wygod's Medication

Postby J.D. » Wed Apr 20, 2005 6:48 pm

Whoever took Marty Wygod's medication, please return it immediately. He has been acting very odd the past couple of weeks and has caused great harm to the sport of racing and some of the individuals associated with it. If he keeps up his current pace of bizarre behavior, he may even bring racing to the same level as the WWF.

Yes, return it immediately. Or better yet give him something stronger.
My thoughts upon reading the announcement: WHAT the...?!?!?
Retire a young 3yo female IMMEDIATELY after a loss? With no injury? What, did he mistake her for a stallion all of the sudden?
At some level I can understand being squeamish about racing a good colt after the first notable loss (you don't want to damage that stud fee any further) but a female? What's to gain out of that?! You breed her, you sell the foal or you sell her. Nobody's going for a 30M$ stud sale here.
I expect this sort of dissapointment from the colts, but with the fillies I had higher hopes. Very dissapointing.

The early retirement of Sweet Catomine is a severe blow to the fans.

When these riseing super stars retire premature the fans suffer a letdown, and the attendance suffers because of the loss of super star TB.

When I was in my teens, my favorite TB were Native Diver, Rising Market, Swaps, Lamb Chop, Princessnesian, Desert Love, Kelso, and Dr. Fager, and Round Table.

Thank God their owners let them compete for many years, as those TB built their own fan base.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

Marty is about to go POSTAL. Keep him away from the barn because I am guessing he is about to take a match to the whole thing. On a serious note, I bet he really loves racing and breeding,as well as his horses and is just totally pissed off. Breeding Sweet Cat in MAY seems pretty selfish. Why not let her relax for 6 months mature, settledown in the pasture and than breed her the first week in Jan. A late foal is most likely going to miss ths 2 year old season anyway and being an INDY the foal has no shot to race at 2. lol

As for choosing AP INDY YUCK!

Maybe you're all missing the point. The "fans" are suing Marty Wygod over his management of his filly. Yup, that's the kind of thing that makes an owner really want to keep racing.

I agree LSB.There are enough obstacles out there to deal with, without worrying about some disgruntled bettor. If you can not afford to lose it,then keep your bucks in your pocket .It IS called gambling.I also agree with Sam when she says it is absolutely ridculous to say sue him for 5,000,000.then you have to consider the poster. It's not the first irrational thing I have seen him post.Marg

Do you really think that one fan suing Marty Wygod for such a Tiny Percentage of his Net Worth is going to throw him into some kind of temper tantrum where he decides to punish the fans who dared to criticise him by retiring his best racehorse?

Wygod even said it was after a Vet looked at the horse that he decided to retire her.

so you STILL believe Wygod when he speaks . . . . . . . .
fascinating . . . . .

The damage this guy has done to poor Sweet Cat . . . . . . .she will always now be thought of with this scandal not of her REAL accomplishments.

POX on Mr. Wygod . . . . . . . . . .

how many really nice horses actually race past 3 or 4? not many. which is sad. either the horses break down due to x,y or z, or the owners get greedy and retire them to stud (the colts) or ship the fillies off to breeding farms. at 3 and 4. the horses haven't even matured, and they are retired.

hi freddymo

You surprise me. You wrote "Breeding Sweet Cat in MAY seems pretty selfish."

Why? An April foal is not only fine (in my book)...but also the birth-month of MANY of the top runners of all-time. And as far as "selfish" (your word)...I say Sweet Catomine's not a lawn ornament...and unless there's a physical (and/or veterinary) concern re: her condition as she transitions to the broodmare phase of her life...I say breed her.

You wrote "Why not let her relax for 6 months mature, settledown in the pasture..."

Why wait? There's apparently no reason to delay (at least that we know of). Mature? She is mature. If she doesn't cycle and come in-heat naturally (or as a result of veterinary intervention) and produce a follicle (to breed on)...she won't be covered anyway (this year). And even if bred...there's no assurance she'll conceive or carry. I say 'when she's right...breed her.' Even a mid-May foal wouldn't concern me. If she has a late foal in 2006...THEN consider letting her have that year off...and point her to 2007...hopefully for early success.

You wrote "...breed her the first week in Jan (2006)." Didn't you mean the first week of February (2006)? Regardless...even if the 2005 breeding season is skipped in favor of 2006...where is it written that she'll cycle in a fashion that will have her ready to be bred (and conceive) early in 2006?

You wrote "A late foal is most likely going to miss the 2 year old season anyway and being an INDY the foal has no shot to race at 2. lol"

hmmm...I suggest you consider the following...birthdates of some recent major stakes-winners and Ky Derby probables:

Afleet Alex........foaled May 6
Bandini.............foaled May 3
Bellamy Road....foaled April 5
Coin Silver........foaled April 28

...and what about last years Belmont winner who was also a G1 winner as a 2yo...

Birdstone..........foaled May 16.

I rest my case.

Best to you.

Respectfully

Hi FOS, I totally agree with you----so much nicer to go out and lie down in green grass than winter snows.Don't forget that Northern Dancer was a late foal and it didn't seem to have an effect on his racing career----oh,that all my late foals or early ones would be as sucessful.Marg
