Giacomo's Last Speed Figures?

Postby Shammy Davis » Sun May 08, 2005 6:55 am

Does any one know what Giacomo's last two speed figures before the Derby were? I've been in the barn, so to speak, on this KD. Thanks in advance? Best wishes - Shammy :D

The speed figures are misleading at the Derby distance, as a blend of speed and stamina is what make the Derby winner.

Louis: Thanks for the info, but I'm doing some research and I need the speed figures to help my comparisons/evaluations. Anyone? Thanks, Shammy

You mean his Beyers?

95 for the SA Derby and 93 for the San Felipe.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Derby comes back at a 102

Shammy the sheets had him at paired 5s, Bellamy Road ran a negative 5 in the wood and Afleet Alex ran a negative zero in the Arkansas Derby. In my opinion this race was destroyed by the fractions during the first half mile, AA stayed too close to the speed and had nothing left. I still feel AA is the best three yr old out there.

Bcassidy: I agree, though I believe from the race I saw that Bellamy Road was struggling from the get go. Edgar Prado even said as much. From a breeders perspective, its hard to make out if Giacomo has what it takes with extra 1/4 mile to win the Belmont. That's what I looking at. From a handicappers stand point the Preakness is anybody's race to win. If all the gates are filled at Pimlico, that will be a calvary charge to watch. Right now if I had to call the Preakness, I'd box Afleet Alex, Closing Argument, and Giacomo. I would not count out Don't Get Mad either. I really liked his race considering he had raced the week before in the prep. Best wishes - Shammy

SAM: Thanks for the Beyers and cleaning up my jargon. :D
