HOW DID AFLEET ALEX COME OUT OF HIS RACE?

Postby louis finochio » Tue May 24, 2005 7:16 pm

When Afleet Alex was being walked back to the barn, I noticed that his left front leg was not normal. AA was favoring his leg, maybe he was just walking that way as he was tired from his effort.

Has anyone heard if AA came out of his Preakness effort ok?

When I walk the backstretch I listen to all the gossip about how these TB are training and how they come out of their races.

When I have to depend on the newspaper or DRF it seems like years between the info that I get when I am on the backstretch.

This is a bad rap for PR on the part of our industry.

I don't know. Wire to Wire said they are still watching him very closely for any signs of trouble, but haven't found anything yet.

I hope AA is OK. As I would like to see him in the Belmont. Thanks.

AA came out of his race in fine condition. He nicked a little skin off his left fore, they think he caught it with a hind. He was reported to be full of himself when he got back to the barn, had a voracious appetite and was trying to eat everything in sight (wanting to graze and down all the mints anyone would give him). He hammed it up for the photographers. Ritchey reported that he was bucking and squealing that evening. He did look like he'd been in a war while being walked to the WC but he revived as soon as he got back to his living quarters and in close to a source of food. He ate up every oat of his dinner.

Ritchey is watching him closely for any muscle soreness, due to the way he was contorted during the incident. So far, nothing has emerged and he's been back on the track for his jogs.

Great news, AA is a fighter and has that fighting spirit that all class TB have.

When he clipped the heels of the leader and then regained his momentum,
AA had the heart of a champion and took off after the leader.

The best is yet to come as evidence by his cleaning up of his feed tub.

Be Well AA and get some rest as you have a big race in the Belmont coming.

At the MD 2yo sale, Ritchey said that Alex was great and none the worse for the wear of his Prekness.

Afleet Alex is one tough hombre, when I read his expression in his eyes, after his incident, AA wanted it bad, thats what separates the men from the boys.

I have that look that AA had in his eyes etched in my memory bank, as I always will purchase a TB that has that certain determined, agressive look in his eyes, as the eyes are the camera to the brain. Amen.
