Will Round Pond win the Acorn Stakes?

Postby Keith » Thu Jun 02, 2005 6:29 pm

Round Pond looks like a nice filly and the Acorn should be competitive with In The Gold Splendid Blended and Seek a Star. Seeking the Ante looks to be a very nice filly also. Round Pond may be the big horse for John Servis this year. I hope Round Pond wins. She is by Ghostzapper's sire Awesome Again.

You can add Smuggler from the Phipps Stable to the mix. She won her last start and she did it easily. This race is turning out to be a good one.

I was at Belmont and it was a competitive race even if a small field.

Round Pond did indeed win but Smuggler was the most impressive horse.

Smuggler moved about 4 furlongs out to challenge for the lead. In the Gold made an impressive run on the turn and entering the stretch to take the lead, but Smuggler battled back and bested her. Round Pond had saved ground made a strong closing bid to win. Very impressive was Smuggler's move into fast fractions and her gameness. Round Pond looks like she going to be a good one, similar gliding stride (butnot as fast :) as Ghostzapper.
