I think it's interesting that several of these are what I'd consider late foals (after April 1st). I remember that Second of June was named for his birthday. June seems like a very late date for a racehorse, but it seems after the two year old year, the birthdate no longer has as much bearing.

What struck me as interesting was that the youngest horse , Chekov was a sales topper of over $3million [5/19/] and that the second youngest, and, I believe, the one with the most races under his belt, is the favorite, AFleet Alex.

People are *obsessed* with having an early foal. I think this is crazy. My philosophy is: never leave a mare open, if you can help it as you can't count on next year. 'Better late than never?" I'm presently having gotten into this situation, but more because of cost factors than anything else. People who depend on their horses running as young 2-year olds have a problem the way I look at it, and their horses may follow suit by getting hurt early. But then, things are what they are, and the big bucks in 2-year old races and the opportunity to take the Triple Crown Raod road have a great attraction business wise.
