Postby sb » Sun Jun 12, 2005 3:12 pm

I just gathered the similarities in Ghostzapper's and Afleet Alex' pedigree, and whether it makes much sense or not, I cam up wiht the following:
any comments would be appreciatedc. Both have Hawai which is a less common ancestor.

Hi sb,

I tend to think this is a "sterile" road of inquiry in some ways; but it is interesting to see the sources of the common ancestors listed like that.

The bloodline affinity's in both GZ and AA have produce 2 above average talented TB.

If you mate the sire and dam of both GZ and AA multiple times your chances of reproducing them would be remote.

Thats the challenge we breeders face when were trying to produce those champion TB.

Louis----Afleet Alex has a full brother named Unforgettable Max who is almost as good as Alex. In many ways the brothers are identical. If Alex is worth 25million plus what is Max worth? Anybody?

Unforgettable max almost as good as Alex?? they aren't even in the same league. Max has never won a graded stake.

I've been wondering about the Toulouse Lautrec ancestry. Not very common, but I'm not familiar with too many branches. I know Bargain Day is a grandson, as is Hawaii. Any thoughts on linebreeding to him?

AS louis finochio says above:

Even though Afleet Alex and Unforgettable Max are full brothers, they have possibly inherited different gene combinations which can be expressed in many ways. Training is, of course, a most important feature , and was instrumental in the development of Afleet Alex' racing prowess as has been documented. The horse was sold for $75K as a 2-year old in training by a trainer/owner who didn't think he was going to be worth investing more money, lol. They had bought him for $175K, if i recall correctly according to the article in the Bloodhorse.

Of course, Afleet Alex will get the better mares also, so his chances at becoming a better stallion are already in that promise.

Now that this issue of full brothers has come up, compare Prized and Reprized-- racing and stud performances.

Here is a Prize [Kris S] gelding for sale for $5K, and he has already gotten some race training and is a pretty nice looking fellow for whatever that's worth, lol. Just a picture after all.

Unforgetable Max demonstrates some of the exact same qualitiies as Afleet Alex. He is some bad racing luck shy and/or 1/2 length shy of some graded stakes wins. He has raced against some tough animals and he is as sound as they come. He is definitely getting better with age. I hope he wins a grade 1 race this year and I would have no problem breeding to him. He has extremely good conformation and has a temperment identical to Alex. Something to remember for the breeding season next year.
Racerx---why are you so confident that they are not in the same league?

Louis, I understand the breeding point you are making but in this case I think AA and Unforgettable Max are more alike than people realize right now. They are both super animals. As I said above, but for some bad racing luck, Unforgettable Max gets his graded stakes wins. Someone to keep an eye on next year. Respectfully. Brendan.
