25 MILLION FOR AFLEET ALEX
I heard a rumor that some individual offered 25 million for AA. If it is true we will all know very soon.

hi louis finochio
Seems like anything's possible in this game...including world-class rumors.
Regardless...I could see a pretty good case to be made for $25 mil...but I couldn't recommend $25 mil cash from a buyer's position. Maybe a creative deal (for that kind of money) could ignite interest...hmmm.

hi Elusive City
You wrote "Alex figures to be about a 20K-40K stud first year. not nearly as fast as Smarty (hence his lower stud value)."
Are you suggesting that Smarty J's stud fee was appropriately set at $100k. Respectfully...I suggest his advertised stud fee is ridiculous !
From my perspective...Afleet Alex is arguably a much more generous horse than Smarty J was. AA appears to be a cool, calm, professional racehorse...quite generous. That's one reason that I expect that Alex might make a smooth transition versus older horses...a transition that I expect would have been difficult (at best) for SJ.
I expect that if SJ had come back...he would have been an effective sprinter. His demeanor might have limited him to that specialty. Conversely...I can imagine AA's running style and demeanor (cool, calm and patient etc) benefitting him when he takes on older horses.
I sense that AA is the real deal...and his future is very bright. I believe it's probably fair to say that whatever Afleet Alex's stud fee will be set at (upon his retirement) will by no means be based upon your perception that AA is "not nearly as fast as Smarty" (your words).
I expect that AA has more speed than you're giving him credit for...and has qualities that Smarty NEVER exposed. Furthermore...I sense that AA is a more versatile horse than Smarty Jones was...or could have been.
If there is one particular thing (right now) that I find more appealing about Smarty Jones than Afleet Alex (as a sire prospect)...it's his sire. I like Elusive Quality's chances to be a successful sire-of-sires...more than I like Northern Afleet's. Northern Afleet's sire Afleet was never a horse that sparked my enthusiasm...and re: Alex's (and/or Smarty's) female family...we can save that for another day.
Regardless...AA's a wonderful horse...and his sire Northern Afleet has proven he's a very good young sire...who probably has it in him to be a fine sire-of-sires.
