He either beat one or none...
The grand old man Boss Ego won the race with a very frustrated Schwanavelt(sp?) full of run, second on the other Hollendorfer, Ghost Actor...

I just wish I had enough money to get a horse like this and retire him. Poor thing...him and Buckle Down Ben. Consider this an early Christmas hint...

He's a gelding so of course they'll try to run him into the ground. Dead last in a field of 6 and not claimed. Bless his heart.

Hoovergetthekeys is named for the dog (Golden Retriever, I believe) the owners had. The dog would go find their keys when told, "Hoover get the keys." Cute monniker. Too bad the owners don't have feelings for the horse. He gave them lots of fun and publicity while he was doing well. Now.....

I haven't heard anything about Buckle Down Ben since he came back after two years and ran some races. Is he still running?

Horse name Hoovergetthekeys
Activity type Workout
Activity date 10-20-2005
Track Golden Gate Fields
Surface Dirt
Distance 3 Furlongs
Workout type Breezing
Workout time 0:36.00
Track condition Fast

Apparently he goes for $25,000 claiming tags if his last race in any indication...shame I don't have that much money. I got a pasture with his name on it.

Asby, I don't have Buckle Down Ben workouts on my stable watch lately but I think he's still running.

Wow ok he was at $25,000 last time and they've already put him to half that. Poor horse. Seriously if I had the money I'd get him to retire him. If he doesn't do well in the race, I'm kinda worried cuz who knows what tag he'll run for next time. For those of you who would like to see this, I've created a bit of a scrapbook from googling 'Hoover': here is what I think (if I'm reading it right) is his Barrett's sales catalog entry for 2000 - http://www.barretts.com/catalog/CATOC200/pdf/13.pdf

here's a story of Hoover on the 2001 TC trail but getting knocked off: http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/triple ... F11%2F2001

here's Hoover upsetting the El Camino Real: http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/tc2000 ... repid=1024

here's a potential "showdown" between a then star Hoover against Takin It Deep: http://www.ctba.com/goldrush01/news3.htm and here's the results" http://ctba.net/01news/calbreds165.htm

one last one of him as a Gayle Van Leer purchase (he's at the bottom) and apparently the Barrett's must've been 1999 per these comments. http://www.gaylevanleer.com/winners.htm

Here's an update on Hoover:

http://www.drf.com/charts/27/cGG27.html#3

race #3, he finished 5th in a field of 6

Poor guy, the $12,500 tag and he almost finished last. Now what? He's a GSW at 3 in some Derby preps for pete's sake and cute too. He deserves better than this. We all know the odds of him making allowance company based on the current situation is slim, doing well in a top end claimer is unlikely and pretty darn sure he won't be in a stakes race again. Not sure why I latched onto him in particular but I really can't bring myself to pull him off of stable watch and I end up watching the downward spiral. Even if I had enough to do something about it, he's in California of all places and I'm sure it costs a small fortune to get a horse shipped cross country. If I'd realized Golden Gate had live racing on their website I'd have watched his race today. I don't guess you guys know anybody that would retire the ol' boy to better pastures do you? What do you guess he'd bring pricewise if he was in a $12,500 claimer with no takers?
