Stevie Wonderboy takes Juvenile

Postby Heidilady » Sat Oct 29, 2005 11:22 am

Apparently I'm giving the race huzzahs....

Stevie Wonderboy gave a thrilling stretch drive and I dunno this horse is just so fun.

Henny Hughes, talk about a gutsy 2nd.
First Samurai takes 3rd and just wasn't his best running says Bailey.

I swear Henny nearly gave me a scare there but no, Stevie Wonderboy with his equine afro does a lovely job and yay Garrett Gomez (wow did you see the natural curl in that horse's hair? Why don't I get that kinda luck? Mine's just frizzy)

Can't decide how I feel about the name itself said amongst the greats (wonderboy?) but hey, fun name, fun horse....

Overall, I was very impressed with the 1-2 Juvenile colts. Throw the promising filly Wild Fit (a very courageous 2nd in the Juvenile Fillies) into the mix and we may have just seen the foreshadowing of a wonderful 2006 classic season.

I wasn't going to bet him until I saw him in the paddock. He was SOOOO impressive. My only winner of the day

I really liked the interview with Merve Griffin, isn't that guy great :D Really seems like a regular guy and seems to be genuinly interisted in the jock and trainer, as well as his horse, maybe he will contribute to some sort of jocky insurance program, at least idea wise.

Steeeeeevieeeee Wonderboyyyyyyy

Postby Lord Treat » Thu Nov 03, 2005 7:19 am

I just loved watching the whole Breeders Cup programme here in Australia live the other night. What a great race meeting.

Whilst racing is a worldwide thing it is always interesting how races are called in different countries. I just loved the Stevie call. You didn't want to be on any other horse in the race. He just had to call him over the line - at very least for the entertainment value.

Best call in my mind since EEEEEEEEEEDubbbbbiaaaaaaaaaa

Loved that call so much I decided to send a mare 4,000km east to be served by him this season. (Also liked his credentials too).

Lets hope that Stevie is a wonderboy as well - cause I'm sending her to him in a few years time - if he comes down under of course....... and if he still has the gear attached :P

He really has an interesting pedigree. 3x3 to Weekend Surprise through the half brothers A P Indy and Summer Squall, which, of course makes him 4x4 to Secretariat. Family A1 to the conduit mare Petticoat, tail female in the pedigrees of Kentucky Derby winner Gato del Sol and the good stayer Counterpoint. He has the conduit profile to run all day. If he stays healthy, I love his chances in next spring's classic races.

Bill, thank you for pointing out SW's inbreeding

Postby Denise » Fri Nov 04, 2005 12:22 pm

I was talking to someone about this, and the "Rasmussen" factor I've heard about with regard to inbreeding to superior females/families.
Besides Stevie Wonderboy, I can't think of any current runners who might demonstrate this type of inbreeding so close. Can you?

Although he's not a current runner, the outstanding stallion Danehill comes to mind. 3x3 Natalma.

the way he closed reminded me of point givens juvie. of course point given finished second but i have found that 2 year olds that close like that usually have a bright future stretching out.

Good DRF article on SW

Today's edition, in the breeding section.
Talks about the Rasmussen factor and why SW can go the classic distances in the spring.

I haven't read the article yet, but I took a look at Stevie Wonderboy's pedigree. Hmmm....Are they refering to him as having RF because he has A.P. Indy and Summer Squall in the top and bottom? I thought Rasmussen factor only applied when the progeny of the outstanding female producer are a male and a female. Still, Weekend Surprise through two outstanding sons can't be a bad thing.

I'd like the pattern even better if it came through the sire's damline and dam's sireline.

Rasmussen factor

Postby Denise » Thu Nov 10, 2005 4:03 pm

Laurie,

According to what I read, it says it's describing inbreeding to a superior female within 5 generations. SW's 3x3 to Weekend Surprise (through brothers AP Indy and Summer Squall) , and she herself is inbred to Somethingroyal through her sons, Sir Gaylord and Secretariat.
Pretty powerhouse. And the mares contribute the differentiated mitochondrial DNA (energy producing cells) so I bet SW can run for three weeks....
