Kentucky Derby Picks

Postby Whirlaway » Fri Feb 24, 2006 11:10 am

This is always a fun one. I'll name em' and add a few comments.

Private Vow - I've liked Private Vow since he won the Futurity. I like his mechanics and the way he moves over the racetrack surface.

Bluegrass Cat - Underated dual-graded stakes winner. I like the trainer strategy how he is maturing and advancing.

At this point I believe Brother Derek is the horse to beat.

Right now, I'm going with Bluegrass Cat to win it, Brother Derek to place, and First Samurai to show.

I really like Bluegrass Cat's bloodlines, and his performances thus far.

I am planning to go to the Derby this year, as I have never been. I'm pretty excited!

Their are two 3 yr. olds that are by Marias Mon, Strong Contender, and Latent Heat.

SC has a pedigree that will love the distance of the Ky. Derby. LH has a pedigree of speed and stamina, but his stamina is not as kosher as SC.

I will follow these two contenders to the Derby, and see if one comes out of the wood work.

hi guys

Any horse (in this case Bluegrass Cat) that goes through Tampa Bay en route to the Ky Derby is a pretender as far as I'm concerned.

I've yet to make a 2006 Ky Derby pick...but I definitely exclude Bluegrass Cat from the contenders...at least until he shows me that he can run with TOP three-year-olds...and not the competition that he's faced at Tampa Bay

Who knows for sure though...he might turn out to be the prince (although I doubt that, as you might imagine) and win the Ky Derby. If he does...I'll put on a dunce cap...and write on the blackboard 500 times... I Cannot Believe That A 3-yo Winner At Tampa Bay Downs Won The Kentucky Derby

Have to agree with you FOS, he was not impressive winning at Tampa, struggling to beat a longshot. The triple crown is simple as we have nothing to lose. Last year it was Alex, this year its Derek and Ron.

If you like Derek and Ron shouldn't you like Steppenwolfer? The extra distance should suit him just fine.

FOS,

You couldn't name those big dogs you spoke of and now you can't name a Kentucky Derby pick and I was truly saddened and totally surprised you've now hedged with respect to the Blugrass Cat. Whatever you do please don't pick one of my three to win the Derby :!:

Ya' know FOS, and all of this should be in good fun, what makes this so interesting for me is that I've posted here twenty-odd times and I'm a yearling and you've posted here some fifteen-hundred times and you're the stud; I've nothing to lose as I'm still learning and you, well your the big stud. It would be kinda' funny wouldn't it if the yearling makes a pick in the Derby that finishes in front of the big bad stud.

Can't wait to read your next post! And should you find any intestinal fortitude 8) between now and then, maybe you can post your Derby pick.

Respectfully,
The Yearling

I'm with roving boy. If you replay CAUSE TO BELIEVE'S races you will see he can come from far off the pace or be up close. That's what it takes to win the Derby and he shows that ability. And he is by Maria's Mon who has proven he can sire a Derby horse. My bet is on CAUSE TO BELIEVE!! :D
